    Where I've Been

So, I've been taking writing really seriously over the past year. I got 15,000 words out of NaNoWriMo; not bad for a busy month running science festivals. I finished the manuscript in June, sold my retro game systems the funds for self-publishing e-books, and joined a forum thread on one of my boards to write 500 words a night. I was feeling pretty good, especially considering I'm finally a

    Hooves Holding Hearts contest

So, working on the next chapter. No one reading the last one got the hints about the new kid, who is the story's main kid. I'll give these out, and the first person (and maybe a few others) who get it right will earn a small OC cameo in HHH.

Now, the kid's an OC...but the mother is not.

Here are the first few hints.

    Hooves Holding Hearts Edit

So, I changed a scene in chapter four. I changed it because it didn't work, and others complained with a reasonable point.

It happens near the end of the chapter.

    Spoilers ahead.

    I mean, really spoilers.

If you haven;t read the chapter, it kind of ruins the punch to know this...

    Ready.

So, when John is confronting the father....

    What the pre-readers are saying...

Just so you know, here's some comments on the Hooves Holding Hearts chapter that drops this week.

"She had a really miserable childhood, didn't she?"

"Holy freaking s***! Nevermind Jazz, you are not worst parent anymore!"

"This is both heartwarming and utterly heartbreaking at the same time. You magnificent bastard."

    Story Progress!

Chapter four of Hooves Holding Hearts is off to the pre-readers! I'm going to try to get a C&D chapter done next, I think. I'm having to split time between pony writing and writing things I actually intend to e-publish for money, but I intend to finish the crop of stories I have, maybe saving a week in summer to write "Doctor Whooves and the Mare in the Moon."

Hello Readers, New and Old! · 4:54am Nov 18th, 2011

Greetings, Equestria Daily crew! Welcome to the 80's movie love-a-thon! Thank you also to all the readers who's advice and encouragement helped me get to this point.

So, a few behind-the-scenes points about Ch.3

-I love the idea of Celestia as someone who likes good-natured pranks because immortal responsibility is BORING. I can see her being in a future chapter easy; her dialogue just flows out. Heck, I have her statted out in D&D 3e as a 12th Lvl 1/2 Celestial Unicorn; I hope to play a Chaotic Good goddess someday.

-More Screwball this chapter; she's got a big part to play. She's just such a random, weird design that I love giving her an explanation for it. Of course, if she show up you must be able to guess who follows her to school....

-I have better discipline, but my classroom definitely looks like Red Glare's does. Rocket parts everywhere.

-I had started outlining Globe Trotter as a creepy sexual harrasser, but ran into two problems.

1) It raised the squick level too much for the story. Didn't want a sudden Genre Shift or Big-Lipped Alligator Moment.

2) I had unconsciously recreated Gabe Kotter from 'Welcome Back Kotter'! I'm keeping it as a nod instead of a rip off, but I couldn't bring myself to defile Mr. Kotter; the Sweathogs would kill me!

I'm 1,800 words into Ch. 4. Flashbacks! Young Lyra! Screwball reveals some of her origin! Also, I'm planning a contest for someone to get their OC pony into the story in a cameo.

I got to head to bed. I have an actual faculty meeting in the morning; it'll probably inspire me. It was scribbling during a particularly boring meeting that actually gave birth to the story!
