Today's blog post is about a different type of brainstorming: story ideas.
I love getting ideas for stories. I find the act of writing ridiculously fun. Sometimes, when I'm watching MLP or reading other people's work on Fimfiction, the creative muse overtakes me and I decide something needs to be written. Sometimes, that turns into a full-fledged story (see, "Purple Prose"). Sometimes, that turns into something fiercely weird but which I love no less (see, a comment I call "The Ballad of Tipsy Princesses" – but be aware that Sunchaser in his awesomeness has now taken this and begun improving upon it, so the lyrics there are not definitive). And sometimes, that turns into a clever idea I kind of like but have no particular interest in exploring in depth.
That's where "Possibilities" comes in.
I've always liked writing very short pieces, around the 1000 word count, but they don't always make for particularly good stories. There's not a whole lot of space for developing an idea there. "Possibilities" is intended as a collection of vignettes, like a slightly more fleshed out idea box. There's only one piece in it right now, but I expect I'll wind up using it quite a bit over time.
The reason this stuff won't get submitted on Fimfiction's system is that it's not really intended for public consumption. I'm happy to share it with those of you who've taken enough of an interest in my writing to follow me or visit my profile page. I like to give you all something to read from time to time, when my main stories are being published at a slower pace. But the stuff here probably won't have the sort of polish I want in pieces I send to Equestria Daily, and it's not the sort of work I want new readers to see first.
Under my recent stories list on my profile, I've tossed up a widget (fine word, that) for stories I have no intention of submitting to Fimfiction. This is something bookplayer does as well, though proximally the suggestion comes from my wonderful pre-reader, PoweredByTea. For the moment, "Possibilities" is the only thing in this area, though bookplayer's notion of annotating stories seems like it could be fun as well. If you want to give it a look, go ahead.
Sound interesting to me! i've really been enjoying these. Also thank you a thousand times over for giving a tag and one sentence description for each post. There's a few folks who're doing these and have neither and it drives me up the wall
