Update on things · 1:48am Mar 17th, 2013
Hello, everyone. I figure I owe you all some kind of an update, given how long it is taking me to write the next chapter of Apples at Sunset. I'll be honest, writing it is not easy. I suppose it's a combination of the pressure I'm putting on myself, the length of time since I started the story, and the fact that I cannot for the life of me figure out the exact sequence of events to end it with. I know generally how it's ending, and hell, the last chapter is already written. I'm just having a really hard time getting from point A to point B gracefully.
As of right now, I have 3,500 words down. No, that does not mean it will take me another month and a half to write another 3,500. I'm much more focused on it now, and I've made myself a promise to get SOMETHING of it written every day, no matter how much or how little it is. Some days it has been 1,200 words, other I've only done 50. I figure those of you reading it would prefer I take my time instead of rushing out an inferior chapter, so that's how I've been operating.
This story has also somewhat illuminated my true motivations behind writing. I've always know that I write things because 1) I feel the story is worth telling, and 2) I find said thing interesting. Given that it has been so long since I started writing Apples, #2 has waned significantly. I don't write for more views or watchers, I write only for myself.
That said, I do have some (sort of) good news. In all this time since the last chapter release, I've continued to write quite a bit. I have another two stories in the works, and a third already complete. I'll be releasing the finished one shortly after Apples is complete. As for the unfinished stories, one of them is going to end up at a decent length (maybe as long as Apples) and will have a similar tone. The other is a one-shot.
This longer story will not be posted until I'm done with it. I'm sure that if I release it chapter-by-chapter as with Apples, I'll just be giving myself undue stress and leading a bunch of readers on. If I finish the thing, THEN start posting it, it will likely come out faster and I'll feel better about it in general.
Beating Her Heat is done. I don't see any way for me to go back and complete that story. Maybe, MAYBE in some weird, alternate universe some stars may align and give me a sudden burst of inspiration so that I might come back to it, but I sincerely doubt it. I don't often apologize for my work, but... I'm sorry. I know a lot of people wanted more from that story. I did too. But I just cannot muster an interest in it or find a way out of the hole I've dug myself.
So, in summary:
-I'm working on Apples At Sunset as hard as I can. It WILL be finished.
-There are two one-shots I'll be releasing after Apples
-There is a longer story I'm going to complete, then I'll be publishing it here
-Beating Her Heat is over and done with. I won't be finishing it.
Cool. Whenever you're ready, just let me know! I'll be there with my red pen of death!
Hmmm, ever thought about doing a lesson 2 ?

There are always things I want to do, but I know probably will never happen because I don't have the time or energy. Lesson Two is one of those things. Sure, I'd like to continue that story, but I wouldn't really know where to go with it while keeping it interesting. I like it how it is.

Thanks for being patient with me.

Alrighty, just checking
I find I do my best writing when I stay up so late that I get in trouble.
By all means, take your time, and do everything right -- your Applejack story is so sweet and endearing, and definitely one of my favorite mature AJ stories
