FIVE HUNDRED! · 2:05am Mar 5th, 2013

Thank you all for over 500 faves on All-American Girl! It means a lot to me to know that you're all out there enjoying the story. And I couldn't have done it without any of you, so you all have my thanks!

Now, as I promised, at 500 faves I would give a HUGE (XBOX HUEG!) hint as to the indentity of Nightmare Moon. So with that in mind, Know Your Threats. It'll be here sooner than you think.

It's totally DJ, she's got so many issues she should just get a subscription, and is unknowingly a sleeper agent for communist China, committing murder under orders from her masters in Beijing. Wait, I'm just reiterating classic movie scripts again, aren't I?

nah, Nightmare is totally Future!Twilight from a time when her lack of a love life has driven her completely insane. Or she was tardy and that caused a psychotic break... :)

To be brutally honest, I don't think it could be any of them.

Reasoning:
This reason actually plays true for all five mares: They all have easy access to both The Princesses, The Mane six, and DJ. (CD is married to Blueblood, has access to the more restricted rooms of the Castle, and could most likely attack all of them, DJ included, at some form of social gathering (the Grand Galloping Gala); Orange Box is related to Derpy, and could probably use the sympathy the others feet towards her to meet with them. (Being a member of House Campolina certainly helps too.) Minty is Rarity's daughter. If she wanted to meet with all of them she could. And she has! She could even meet with DJ if she said that she finally wanted to put the past behind her. It therefore makes little sense to have such a long and dragged-out conflict with two dimensions and having to promise significant land and monies to Chrysalis and the RoP when she could just strike at the next Pinkie Pie party. Bon Bon is in the same boat as Minty. She is still good friends with Lyra and could probably meet with DJ just as easily. Even if she wasn't the ex-wife of The Equestriani Ambassador to The United States, she is also still friends with Sweetie and Twilight and other influential ponies who could get her close enough to attack. Finally, Star Swirl is a very high level Mage and knows most of the Mane Six personally. All she has to do is show up at either the Castle or a Pinkie Pie party (neither of which would cause suspicion) and seize power.

Personally, I think that it was Neon Lux, the leader of the Purehooves. It just makes so much sense. He hates humans with a passion, so it seems viable that he'd be ignorant of just about anything human-related, and his hatred would be so strong that he'd be willing to do anything for his master. As for why he's male and NMM isn't, well, think about it this way: NMM has apparently done unspeakable things to Luna during her possession, and has implied that she wants to do the same to DJ. It therefore makes sense that she'd be perverted and sadistic enough to give him an unwilling Rule-63 treatment whenever she took full control.

Isn't it obvious? It's Shinzakura! :trollestia:

My first impulse was Champagne Dreams.
Thinking a little further, Bon Bon makes more sense in my headcanon.
Overall, however, I believe the listed evidence makes Star Swirl the best candidate.
Of course my thought process could be very faulty. I thought Orange Box was a dude.

Champagne Dreams or Minty seem to me the most likely.

Minty, because she has both anger and loss; Darth Vader-like drew upon her hatred of DJ after being tricked by Nightmare Moon through nightmares about her family dying to take on Nightmare Moon's "help" to save her family. Upon doing so Nightmare Moon reseperated from Minty through dark magic or such leaving her "ill" because she still supports NMM's activity. Which would explain NMM non-physical form. NMM chose Minty because the only way to stop her is to kill Minty to which is impossible in her mid because she sees the ponies as gutless fools.

Champagne Dreams would have more of a deal with the devil sort of backstory to which she underestimated NMM's actual power and is now merely NMM's pony body. In this form she can help cause political strife through Prince Blueblood while her dark magic fiddling wouldn't catch her husband's attention.

Bon-Bon, Star Swirl, and Orange Box have anger issues; but I doubt they'd be willing to harm their family's to accomplish their revenge. Star Swirl would just be to shallow because her reasoning would be the weakest.

DJ, that would be one hell of a twist but would likely lead to some sappy make up with your Mom to save the world sort of story.
Luna nor Celestia could be NMM due to them having truly conflicting views along with NMM's comments.

The only reason I placed DJ on the list is because someone suggested it to me in a PM. In truth, it would be impossible for DJ to be Nightmare's host; remember that Nightmare has had physical contact with DJ twice (the unwanted kiss and the broken arm), which would necessitate the need for a physical body.

890047 Well Nightmare Moon has been non-physical/ physical before in the series.

Regardless, that makes me relieved

Hows about all five? At the same time, in some unholy fusion that twists minds and bodies... And now for some reason I'm visualising some kind of evil pony Nightmare Voltron... I'm just gonna blame this on cold medicine and say goodnight.

Congrats on 500 dude! And wow, I thought Orange Box was a dude...

Anyway, evaluations!
CD: While a good candidate, her characterization seems to be she'd rather want more access to dark magic, and it'd be a lot more efficient to wait for your spouse to take over and give you authority to access it then make a deal with Equestria's satan. 5/10
Orange Box: Box, who apparently isn't a dude, is... iffy. We haven't seen much of her; and depending on how deep seated that hate is, could make her a very good choice. Also, it'd be quite ironic if DJ's would-be murderer is the niece of her savior. However, we don't no much about her, so it could be possible she's just pissed off and will get over. 7/10
Minty: Oh Minty. The enigma, of sorts. From what I've gathered, she's great and kind, but hates DJ and is annoyed at Twilight and Sweetie. A lot of hate for DJ. On the other hand, she's great to everyone else. She's has a loving family. And, while LOST has taught me this doesn't really exclude her, she experienced the pony equivelant of being nuked, and was 't recovered untill NMM gloated a bit, and was confirmed hospitalized when she attacked Cloudsdale. 6/10
Bon-Bon: I'd say Bonnie here is the least likely candidate. She's remarried, doing great business, and was redeeemed pretty thoroughly in her and Lyra's spinoff story. But, she did have a mental break, so she could have snapped back into crazy and taken an offer from NMM. 4/10
Star Swirl: I only know slightly more about Star Swirl than Orange (not-a-dude) Box. While being head of the Mage Guild would be a great veil of secrecy, her main motivation for being a Gillian is about to let her know she's single. Also, loves her dragon ward. Still, she could be a case where she remains petty over something small. 5/10

Overall, I'd say it's either Orange Box or Minty, but I've been wrong before (I thought Jacob was the black smoke) but all could be the correct answer, and I missed something. And it could still even be someone from the list at the bottom... well, only Cadance, Ditzy or Hazy Jane, but that's something to talk about later...

So Scrappy Doo didn't even make the long list?

None of them really strike me as having the raw hate needed.

... So... it needs to be someone who utterly despises the royal alicorns, is filled with burning hate for them, is willing to be a snarky bitch willing to throw failures into the mane six's faces...

... Am I Nightmare Moon?

Huh.

889987 890292 889717 ...just basically including you guys with this post.

Minty is the most likely suspect to me because of her hatred of the DJ and everyone else related to her (so I'm pretty sure she hates humans more than Rarity when she[Rarity] first started out before warming up to them and redirect her hatred toward DJ's foster parents) and in that new in between chapter you reveal that Rarity is not exactly spending enough time with her and she even have to miss her birthday to go on a meeting about the sighting of Nightmare Moon. With the fact that she's apparently the sole survivor of that "cleansing" in Fillydelphia at the same time that Nightmare Moon is in the middle of some "plan" that the other bad guys can't contact her seems to cast enough suspicion on her. But since there's no conclusive evidence yet, I'm only reduce to just keeping an eye on her along with my benefit of a doubt with the hope that it really is someone completely different, like a human for example.
