What have you done this time, Doctor? · 10:15pm Feb 21st, 2013

Okay, to begin distancing somewhat from the unpleasantness of the previous episode...

This is Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. It's a three-pack from the 'Three Doctors' serial, also including a Jo Grant and one of the gell guards. I ordered a Doctor Whooves from Hot Topic, but he won't be shipping until the 23rd or so.

In Hasbroverse terms, the Doctor comes from 'N-space'. Hasbro Earth is in 'H-space' and Equestria lies in 'P-Space'. The Doc found himself in 'H-Space' during his wanderings before the Time War and tried to help out, but unfortunately his plot shields were left behind. Let's just say after having reviewed the series for rpg.net the G1 Decepticons actually come off a hell of a lot scarier than at first glance.

I just realised. The Joes could be Hasbro Earth's equivilent to UNIT!

Whoever draws a picture of Derpy in a UNIT outfit flying into battle with the Brigadier riding on her back will win all of the internet.

I don't get it. What did they do to the Decepticons that's so scary? :rainbowhuh:

853039 Well... no. There was a UNIT, a UNIT that had no Daleks, Cybermen, Autons or any other Who monsters to deal with. They were eventually incorporated into the EDC along with GI Joe and other military operations. The previous head of the EDC was H-space's version of the Brigadier.

853062 All of them.

853073 What I mean is, despite Megatron declaring "I've got morons on my team!" In Auto-Berserk, the Decepticons in the G1 animated series could be pretty damned frightening if you think about it.

1. They waltzed through our military like we weren't even there. There was little to no pretense at hiding. Just fly in, wreck shit and fly out. Without the Autobots we'd have been enslaved within a year.

2. At no point during the first two seasons were there any pat assurances of, "At least no one got killed!" or anything like that. There were many scenes where it was pretty obvious there were dozens, if not hundreds of human deaths. Hell, in the three-part 'Ultimate Doom' I'm fairly sure millions died worldwide. They made ye old gory discretion shot almost an art form.

3. We saw Cybertron becoming more and more active over the episodes, almost all of it Decepticon-based, which strongly indicated Megatron was succeeding in getting energy from Earth there.

So for me, they were a lot scarier than people remember.

Honestly, if I had to choose between the Daleks or the Decepticons... I would run away screaming.

Hmm. Fair point. I always figured there were more deaths than injuries, but we were always shown only the focus on the war itself we didn't often see a lot of the consequences of the war, so in that vein it was very well done. In fact, the only show back then that I recall them making a point of showing people dying was Robotech.

853109
Wow, I can't decide which is worse for UNIT! Dealing with all the Who villians, or dealing with Decepticons!

853109

Oh, and Brig has to be holding a saber as he does it. Or a pistol.

But one of the reasons that Michael Bay's movie (get back here and listen to my critique) gets props from me, is that the military isn't shown as utter screwups. Yes, we're nowhere near as advanced, but it shows that thanks to advances we've had in the last few decades, we can actually fight them.

But I never did catch that in the old series. That's pretty sobering to think about- we were such a short distance away from being conquered.

853113 Good answer and taking of the third option. You get three mustaches. :moustache::moustache::moustache:

853117 Yeah. Admittedly there was a small bit of reading between the lines, but G1 definitely had an edge to it. I remember seeing those opening scenes of the premiere and thinking, "Cybertron looks so desolate, and lonely." Another thing was, with few exceptions, they used RL locations. The final battle in the two-part debut of the Stunticons and Aerialbots took place in Seattle!

853135 Maybe a bit of both?

853342 Oh, I rather love the 2007 movie and find ROTF, although to have flaws, to not be nearly as bad as some people think. That's why Lennox is head of the EDC. And yeah, without the Autobots we were pretty much screwed.

853453

Don't forget two battles taking place in New York, too. And all over Japan in both Kremzeek! and The Burden Hardest to Bear.

Okay, to begin distancing somewhat from the unpleasantness of the previous episode...

So I take it you didn't like the season finale...

...unless...

*Checks to see if Doctor Who has started up again*

Nope. Not until March 30.

I wonder how a Decepticon would react to being Soniced. . .
