Okay, I need to get this off my chest. I've been turned away from one too many well-written and wonderful stories because this concept just rubs me the wrong way. So, here goes:
Scootaloo's wings are not useless.
Yes, I get that she can't generate lift. Yes, I know that a foal like Pound Cake has demonstrated more power over flight than she has. But I'm just tired of authors thinking that she can't fly at all. Look at her on her scooter, for Pete's sake! How do you think she's able to zoom across Ponyville on that thing, magic?! I'm certain that if she had the proper thrust, she could fly through the air no problem. Granted, it'd have to be a pretty powerful thrust for her to stay airborne (and no, I'm not suggesting shooting her out of a cannon), but it's certainly possible.
Sorry if I'm coming off as angry here; I'm really not. I just think that Scoot's talents are undersold in a lot of the stories I see about her (not saying that there aren't stories that say she can fly; there are. I'm just talking about these particular stories that say that she can't). She's a late bloomer, to be sure. Nevertheless, I have faith that someday she'll be able to spread her wings and soar, maybe even as Rainbow Dash's wingpony.
But, that's just my two cents.
*nods* That's always been my policy too. A lot of folks go with Faust on this one where her headcanon says Scoots is a perma cripple but I'm skeptical of that being canon in the show. Partly because I think that's a pretty heavy topic for a kids show and so can't see them covering it and secondly because she has shown growth in her flying ability.
I'd also like folks to shut the bucking heck up about her being an orphan. so many folks looked at sleepless in Ponyville and try to tell me this was the writers telling us she was but I didn't get that feeling and until it's directly said in the show or by someone who can say that with certainly I'd like it to just die in a hole. /end rant

That's, honestly a new one on me. But again, besides the fact that she can't generate lift, her wings appear to be just fine in my book. After all, she uses them all the time when she's on her scooter.
849648 As well the fact that she got a bit of lift in the beginning of Bad Seed which she had never done in the previous seasons leads me to thinking she is showing improvement. Ditto Sweetie's magic.
I know Faust has been quoted saying it but I can't remember the exact video so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it
She can definitely fly. She showed that in Bad Seed. She just hasn't gotten there yet. I think that Pound Cake flying was just a bit of sloppy writing, rather than pegasus normality. They are obviously moving her into flying in the future by teaming her up with Rainbow Dash.
