So, apparently, all further endeavors with John DeLancie's Brony Documentary have been cancelled.
Why, you ask? Because of rampant piracy.
You remember way back when, when John DeLancie and the other people who worked on the Documentary asked us "please don't upload this to Youtube and other such sites?" This is what he was talking about. Apparently, it's been spread around so much now, that it would be impossible for him to release it on BluRay or Netflix, which was ultimately his goal.
So now he and everyone else who worked on it ended up wasting a whole lot of money and time and effort, all for something that can never truly come to fruition.
There was a bit of controversy a while back when people were getting on his tits about him threatening legal action against somebody who uploaded it to youtube like four times after having it taken down every time, and other people having similar takedowns. There has also been a fair bit of criticism against the documentary, stating that it doesn't give enough attention to female bronies.
Frankly, I think these criticisms are bull. Yes, legal actions are a bit much, but this is exactly the sort of thing he was trying to avoid. And whether it seems "unfair" or not, there is an extreme gender bias in bronies towards males. Let's face it, what was the number the last time the statistics were taken? 80% male to 20% female? Frankly, it seems like it was probably more fairly presented than people think.
But whatever you think about the controversy or about the documentary itself, there was no denying that this project was nothing more than a labor of love. It was done for us. And these actions have basically just spat in their face.
Yeah. They've basically been betrayed.
By us.
Hope everybody's happy.
This is me disgusted right here.
EDIT: Okay, so apparently, the only thing they've "shut down production" on is making the 'bonus material' disc. They apparently ended up shooting several hundred hours of bonus material and were going to put it on a second disc instead of just dropping it all. Now they're just dropping it. That said, plans to have it released on Netflix, Amazon Video, and BluRay, are still go.
...still feeling disgusted anyway.
Q did a documentary?
Dammit, Internet. This is why we can't have nice things.
This is why we can't have any nice things.
And this is me; disgusted right along with you.
Somehow I knew this would happen. Ugh.
I'd suggest the invention of an anti-piracy program that prevents copies from being ripped onto and from the Internet, but someone would crack it whithin a week.
Well, shit.
Somehow, after they gave the warning, i knew, I KNEW, that this was going to happen!
It was simply only a matter of time before crap hit the fan AFTER they gave the warning...
