So, I'm going to assume everyone remembers when I said Flutter On was a terrible idea?
Yeah, I kind of felt that way. Then I saw it.
Was and wasn't great, didn't have enough time to flesh out Discord's psychology, but, given what I can infer about him and what they did, I can pretty much say that if the episode had five extra minutes, they could of pulled it off with grace and poise. So, I accept it. There will still be stories I plan to write that take place before that point in time and still use Discord as an antagonist, but, I accepted that this happened, and its a thing, and it worked well enough in theory that I forgave the practice for its flaws.
Plus, we got an episode about Fluttershy that didn't revolve around her social anxiety or her super powers. That was... nice.
So, with that in mind, how do I feel about the news today?
... Eh.
Yeah, that's about how I feel. Eh. Twilight Sparkle is going to get wings, a power boost, and a title. And immortality. People are sitting there freaking out and saying that it will ruin her life and she won't be able to see her friends anymore... which is such utter freaking bollox.
Twilight Sparkle is an agent of the crown, a hero, a chief researcher and personal student of the princess, and a diplomat for not one, but two nations as of this weekend's episode. She's the student and best friend of a pair of physical goddesses, part of two royal families by marriage, one of the most powerful spellcasters alive, friends with the best friend of the God of Strife, and has been responsible for saving the world three separate times, and the nation of Equestria once. The fact that her life is as normal as it is is honestly the weird thing, and this change will cause less head-scratchers than the fact that she was baby-sat before she met Celestia by the demigod of love. I'm frankly not terribly worried. Studio B took a mandate to have a pink alicorn toy be part of the show's canon and turned it into a mind blowing series finale. I've read enough good Twilicorn fanfics to know this is a story that has potential. Let's see how they run with it.
Could this suck a big one? Of course it could. Studio B isn't perfect. I still wake up screaming from nightmares about the Mysterious Mare Do Well, but what I am saying is, give them the benefit of the doubt. #IBelieveInM.A.Larson. #InStudioBWeTrust.
A final note though: Guys, don't be Saberspark. Seriously. That was one of the douchiest fucking things I have seen in a while from this fandom. Yes, some people have their head up their asses. Some people are being childish. Some people are ranting and raving and not listening to reason. You want to know how you get them to stop? Well, mocking them for giving a shit and throwing a fit and unsubtly comparing them to hysterical babies and idiots isn't the first step. The reason people get angry is because they deeply care about the show and its outcome, even if they have a different vision from you and care for different aspects. Trying to make them feel like shit because of that is one of the sleeziest fucking things to do, o.k.? Wait for things to calm down, then talk it out. Arrogantly posturing isn't going to help.

Now, as for non-fandom politics related news: I do have a few projects coming down the pipe. Ironically, the main one is pretty much tanked canonically by both this bombshell and the rise of Good Discord, but, in all honesty, it really wasn't a story likely to have happened in the canon verse anyway.
I mean really, what were the chances of Twilight becoming a vampire?

I like Saberspark, but he definitely went a bit over the top on that one. Really, everyone just needs to take a chill pill and wait until it airs. Have a little faith, people.
Eh, I don't know. The last time I read a good story with that premise, the author got chased off the site before he got to the second chapter.

It might be because I was in a shitty mood today and thought that everyone was a freaking retard over this Twilicorn business, but I thought that Saberspark was well within his prerogative to mock everyone who was freaking out. If you can't make fun of people acting stupid, when can we make fun of anything?
There have been several instances in which the fandom lost their shit over something they thought would destroy the show. It never happened, fellas. You watch this show because the writers are good (mostly). Have some faith, for Pete's sake.

770633 Is that seriously what happened to Device Heretic? I've always kinda wondered exactly what went down that led to the deletion of all his blogs and stuff and subsequent self-imposed exile.
1745689 Yeah, something along those lines. I don't have the full story, but as far as I'm aware, some group of assholes got it in their heads that they didn't like Device, so they started harassing him as aggressively as possible on as many websites that they could find him on. The poor guy got so traumatized by all the constant abuse that he just completely abandoned everything. One of his friends (Vargras, I think?) made a blog post about how simply seeing a pony toy nearly sent the guy into a nervous breakdown. I'm pretty sure that he has recovered somewhat by now, as SleeplessBrony has posted a couple of stories co-written by Device. They're not bad, if you don't mind reading smut.
