LOTR will never be equaled. · 1:21am Mar 25th, 2024
I was thinking about it while playing Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. (My brother gifted them to me for my birthday.) And honestly, the more I reflected on it, the more it made sense. There's a few things that compare in literary achievement, like Dune, but it never made it into modern public consciousness until, like, three years ago. And besides, LOTR wasn't just popular or good-- it changed the game for the rest of fiction to come. I won't aim for "being the next Tolkien" or whatnot when I get around to attempting to write my stories, because no one can be the next Tolkien. Some authors' work I like reading more, like David Eddings, but it just isn't the same.
Agreed. LOTR was a true masterpiece and no one could ever come close to matching it.
Well you just write what you like and what burns within you, 'k? And remember what CS Lewis said in one quote? Just try to tell the truth without caring two-pence how often it's been told before and 9/10 you'll be original without realizing it.
Agreed. More blogposts like this please!
