Today I learned... · 10:54pm March 10th
I've been playing Civilization games since the late 90s, with Civ2. I've learned quite a bit of history tidbits from them.
I was playing Civ6 earlier today and got an odd achievement: "ARMY OF CTHULHU: Levy the military of Nan Madol." Obviously I'm familiar with Cthulhu — I'm a big Lovecraft and huge Mythos fan — but I ended up googling Nan Madol, and it's fascinating.
I just skimmed the link and the name of the people who lived there are named Pohnpei, which sounds like it could be an archaeological site in Equestria.
Keep sharing, I'm a bit of an armchair history enthusiast so nerd me out
A pox on everyone who thinks history is boring or pointless.
Civilization is also really interesting to linguistic and music nerds. I love it when people ask why Catherine de Medici's french has a thick Italian accent and how they use reconstructed Akkadian for Gilgamesh and them using famous melodies for each culture like the Song of Seikilos.
Just in case you haven't come across it yet, Rare Earth on youtube/nebula did a video on Nan Madol about a month ago that's definitely worth a watch.

I sometimes do "miscellaneous research" into etymology and simply LOVE reading fics that explore a bit on pony lingo beyond silly earth-puns.
Fun fact: depending on how long you’ve been playing, then it’s likely that you’ve been playing longer than I was alive.

Whereas I remember from multiple sources that the Medicis were Italian and thus merely ask why they're apparently running France as well.

That I need to check out, thanks!
