Anyone notice any other G4 references in that room? I could swear one stained glass window featured Celestia and Luna sealing Discord in stone. That voice also had an odd cadence, and I guessed it rhymed 'grow' and 'go,' so I had to remind myself that no, that's not Zecora.

my guess is that the book is made by Twilight and magically stored in some space which can only be accessed by the magic from the crystals. Whatever, it seems that they are starting to explain what happend between G4 and G5.

Well, just imagine, if they did not have all the rights, the fact we got actual G4 callbacks in here goes to show that the TYT studio got a pay check and could afford the license fees for a change. XD

MYMwhile the 3D started with a budget and splurged it on getting proper cameos (hologram, name drops, Spike himself).

For a second there I though Misty was going to turn into an alicorn. Oh well, at least we're finally getting a follow up to the movie loosely implying that the lighthouse had some magical history to it. And all the gens are now canon, I guess.

My best guess: once FiM started taking off, Discovery Family/the Hub thought "hey, why can't we have a bigger piece of the pie?," called their lawyers, and found a way to get Hasbro to sign off on their rights to a lot of G4 IPs.

Faust actually had a similar problem: there were a lot of characters from the older gens that she wanted to use but wasn't able to legally so she just changed their names and designs a bit. Side note: ironically, a lot of the characters with names that she was allowed to use ended up barely resembling their older counterparts, Rainbow Dash being a good example.
