Unpublished Fateful Flurry April Fools chapter for those who missed it.

    Author's Note
For anybody who missed it. I prefer to keep the actual story clean so it's being moved here.

I know moving it to a blog deleted all the comments on the original story, I promise I read them all and appreciate those who weren't policing my creative drive.

Where is Misplaced Wings!? [Vote] · 2:34pm January 16th

Hello, Misplaced Wings readers! Sorry, it’s been so long since there have been any updates whatsoever. I’ll try to be rather quick and concise about it.

I know some people have shared the sentiment, and I’ve been asked this question before: No, I didn’t stop writing Misplaced Wings because Fateful Flurry did better! And I’m not just chasing the highest view count, I promise. I’m actually more emotionally invested in MpW than AFF, if I’m being honest, and I think you would be able to tell since EVERY chapter of MpW has had art drawn by me since around chapter 3.

I’ll just be completely honest here and say that I stopped because I knew I could write SO MUCH better. I hate the hospital chapters, the Fluttershy chapters, the Twilight chapters… Hell, I hate the way I wrote Arlen in general. (If you don’t remember that name, I don’t blame you; it’s Mellow’s human name.) All of the chapters up until around 14 feel boring, derivative, and honestly quite embarrassing to me upon rereading.

I know it sounds harsh to insult my own writing this badly. I know people like the story; the story has 622 likes! But I’m not proud of those chapters at all. I hate the way I’ve used my own OCs, and I have nobody to blame but myself for that. My move from FF.net to Fimfiction had me trying out a completely different type of writing; I had to evolve during that change. And the simple fact is that I’ve improved a lot since nearly a year ago, when MpW started.

So, what… Am I just giving up and canceling Misplaced Wings????

NO!

I want to write MpW; I really, really do. And I want everyone who cares about the story to give me their own input. What I personally want to do is a full rewrite. It wouldn’t be a carbon copy of the storyline as it is now, but it would be very similar in many aspects. Same characters, same premise, just written about 100x better than it's current iteration, and ORIGINALITY above all. I have an HiE story of a child turned into an alicorn kirin, and I stuck him in a hospital for 6 chapters… really???

But I don’t want this to all be up to me. I leave the real decision up to you guys. If you guys wish, I will finish Misplaced Wings as it is now and give it the best ending I can. And it might disappointing, but I will not be doing art for every chapter, regardless of which option you pick.

Or, I could rewrite it better, stronger, and much more interesting! (And probably cuter.). And all your favorite characters will be there! Lovelight, Haze, Arlen (possibly not named Mellow). It'll be a great time!

So give me your opinion, should I start the rewrite now and work on it alongside AFF, which would mean slower chapters of both stories? Do I wait for AFF to finish before rewriting MpW? Or do you simply disagree with everything I’ve said and want me to simply finish writing it?

It’s up to you guys! I will go with the seemingly majority opinion. If there is simply no opinion from anyone, I will just follow through with the rewrite plan. I'll wait a week or so before deciding on a final opinion.

Vote here! If you are so kind, please tell me why you vote what you did in the comments.

Hmm. Tough choice. I actually rather like how its written now, but I can see why you'd say some of the things you did. I mean, whatever happens with the vote, I'll still be looking forward to each chapter of both stories with eager anticipation.

If you go through with the rewrite, I do hope the original version will stay available, as I think it's still a good story.

Honestly im loving both stories, cant wait to see more in the future!

I personally enjoy how Misplaced Wings is written now, but I don’t mind if you end up doing a rewrite of it. Heck, I’m actually curious on what other things you’d change from the original fic if you ever decided to go through with the rewrite.

But anyhow, I’m looking forward to seeing more from both of your fics.

Your story is great the way it is, but I'd like to take a look at the new version. As for how to write better, I think it’s worth focusing on one story.
P.S. I apologize if the writing is not clear, I’m using a translator)

Well the mystery villains plus mysterious past causing issues were a little annoying. From what I can tell you have talent even in mpw and although I wouldn't say it was in the category amazing rarely I rate a story as amazing but you're pretty good. Maybe just help twilight work more on the whole magic of friendship and less on the fact he has fire and is an alicorn. She was so focused on that she didn't even try to be a friend. Fluttershy tried but freaking out on the fire thing doesn't help. Surely she has dealt with creatures that are hurting and need her attention in one form or another considering she isn't a veterinarian though I'm not sure what her job is. As someone looking after a child when they are scared and hurting you have to be strong and act like everything is going to be okay even if the world is crashing down around you. They need you make it seem like everything will be alright even you don't believe it.

All I can say on the choice; if you know you won't enjoy writing and finishing the current story as is, then don't it. That's how story's end up on Hiatus or permanently Incomplete.

If *you* want to do a rewrite, then go for it! Don't force yourself into doing something you know you'll regret.

If you feel the story could be written better and have the drive to do it, by all means. And if you feel like the plot/characters/etc. needs a bunch of rewriting, I'd suggest leaving this version up and just labeling it as the old version, or something along that line.

I am voting to finish AFF first.

I have spent many years in the Creative Writing board of the Spacebattles forums. During my time I have seen many authors start rewriting one story while also working on another. 9 times out of 10, the process of rewriting one story while also continuing the other causes them to burnout on both stories.

Rewrites have a noticeable trend of killing themselves and other stories. I suspect it happens because rewriting is a very different process then writing from the beginning. More critical thinking goes into a rewrite, since the author has to evaluate what they previously wrote and figure oit how to do it better.

I have seen writers abandon stories because the process of rewriting forced them to think more critically about their writing in general. Which can lead to them being dissatisfied with the writing quality in their other works. Which can in turn result in them feeling discouraged about continuing.

I would rather you finish a story first so you have that as proof that you can. That you can write a beginning, middle & end to a multi-chapter story.

I think a rewrite would be wonderful. The story is good now, but I'm not really that invested in the current villains. So if you can bring the same life into the rewrite that you put into AFF then go for it. I have no idea how many more chapters you have planned for AFF, but if the motivation for the rewrite is eating at you then you might as well do them at the same time. I'm along the ride no matter what you choose.

Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus so... will do. Though I don't think I would fall into those pitfalls much personally, since I'm already in the "super critical and dissatisfied with current quality of my own work" phase, due to the amount of discourse between my AFF readers. I guess I'm just sort of in the part where I should only take into account my own satisfaction when posting.

Thanks for the detailed input.

I have and always will say this write what you want not what others want, if you want to rewrite it then rewrite it:twilightsmile:

A story made because you enjoy it will always be better then something you're forcing yourself to do for the sake of others

You can't please everyone but if you write what you truly want and are happy with it then others will enjoy it too :pinkiehappy:

More or less what Alchemo said.

Perfection is the enemy of done.

Maybe it's stupid since i haven't written any fanfic or anything yet, but if MpW isn't too far from the end, why not finish it, and if you really, really want to rewrite it, you can do so after.

The thing with a rewrite is that it certainly doesn't seem as fun, and if it's not fun, you're more likely to burn out, or to just not like the story as much.

Personally i think you should just do whatever you want, it's your story after all, and i don't mind having to wait a bit more for the ending. (As long as we do get it one day, i enjoy reading that story after all haha).

Best of luck, and remember to have fun UwU

I highly suggest finishing off the old version and your other story first before doing anything else( this si a few weeks late I know but still)
It's better to wrap something up than to leave it unfinished and start anew.

A rewrite could be better, boi! But I'm not sure🤔

i agree finish AFF first then rewrite MpW. For 2 reasons: Reason one and honestly a selfish reason: i am more invested in AFF and i only just started reading MpW. The second reason is: I believe in you if you say you can write MpW better than you did before I believe you. After all AFF is a very engaging and emotional story so far!! So I imagine your rewrite to be even better and equally impactful as your AFF Story

Cool good to know and I'm A writer too not as good as you but your story is still really good. But as a artist you always have the possibility to improve so I support you on your journey

I personally would recommend you finish FF first before you rewrite MPW. Though I would also recommend taking notes about what the main plot points (and even smaller plot points if you like) you want to rewrite for MPW. That way when you do get around to rewriting it you'll have most everything you need for a coherent story.
