While waiting for prereads on C&C, a brief note on Eros... · 8:14pm January 2nd
First and foremost, 🎇Happy New Year, folks! 🎇And second, the first preread of C&C Chapter 38 is in and favorable, courtesy of Silentwoodfire—thanks, SWF. Hopefully the rest will be as well. But while we’re waiting for that, I’d like to go back to Eros for a bit, both to work on and wonder if I made a mistake by releasing the first part of the new Changeling arc as one big chapter.
In hindsight, it seems way too big given my usual chapter size in the story. My general philosophy is that new stories and story arcs should start with shorter, bite-sized chapters to draw readers in—something that holds doubly so for clopfics, where attention spans tend to be a bit briefer. Thus, an 18,000 word chapter up front seems excessive and more likely to turn potential new readers off than entice them. Of course, in this instance, anybody coming into the story from C&C knows the characters and what’s happening, so it’s not like I have to introduce them all over again and ease readers in. Still, the size is bugging me enough that I’m thinking of breaking it in two.
If I do so, it’ll only happen when I publish a new chapter, since the mods tend to look askance at republishing existing content. I would then keep the chapter sizes more reasonable, or try to, going forward through the arc. It would mean a longer arc in terms of chapter count, but also more frequent chapters due to shorter length. If I go that route, then I should have a new chapter off to prereaders within a week, and publish it within a week or so after that.
But even before that, the new C&C chapter will be out. Be warned that it will spoil much of what happens in this Eros arc, both M-rated and otherwise, since I need to recap it for readers who don’t read it before moving on in the main story. The reason being that what happens in the Eros arc is important, especially at the end of it.
My hope is that letting slip some of what happens will entice more people to read the new Eros chapters, but I guess we’ll see. The biggest difference is unlike the previous story arc involving the cider poisoning, events will be fully remembered. The question then becomes, how does everycreature react in the aftermath...?
Well, I’ll put it this way. The Queen doesn’t allow what might be regretted, since she knows that taints they love they receive. And her magic, though potent, doesn’t actually force you to do anything. You still have to choose it, so... well, you’ll see.
After this, what I do will kind of depend on my mood. Among other things, I need to go back and rework the end of the latest Midnight Rising chapter as I mentioned in an earlier blog. Or I may need a break from clop, which would mean I write another fresh C&C chapter. Either way, I’ll let folks know. And thanks as always for following my stories, both M-rated and not.
Oh yes, and I know I’ve been remiss on answering comments of late due to all the activity happening around the holidays, which for myself including a long road trip and surprise wedding to attend. I promise I’ll take care of that over the next few days.
Vacation days its to be expected to be harder to reach someone.
Looking forward to more content.
Smaller chapter means more chances for someone to comment. Though it is hard to remember the content in 1-2 readings / re-readings.
