I know it's unusual for me to ring the bell twice within this kind of time span. You should see what's been happening in the chat server. The holiday is a time of crises (and yes, that's still the plural), and... people know I'm willing to try ringing a bell. So far, we've collectively managed to temporarily stabilize a few situations. Kai got to the goal. And there's been a couple of others, which didn't need to be echoed out to the blog.
But December is the cruelest month.
This time, I'm ringing for Mishkiel & Amaranth. We have, acting as a group, gotten Mishkiel to safety once before this. Amaranth is their SO. Their current situation isn't anywhere close to ideal, but there's a roof, some appliances, and a door which locks.
The problem is keeping it that way.
Amaranth was the one who told me about this in the server. I'll just paste those words.
so, it has been a very hard year for everyone. Mish and I have been grateful to have what work we can get with me being sick (and honestly, his health post-escape/homelessness isn't as great as he pretends either), and a lot of good friends have helped us.
unfortunately we are running out of options and it looks like both my surgery and some of the long-term help we've been going for are being pushed off towards spring, at a time when everyone else is doing pretty shit too, and many of the usual people/methods can't help or are already stretched thin.
I'm going to be honest: the amount we need to make it to the New Year at this point is around $1100. I really, *really* don't expect any good chunk of that from one source, and that's *why* I feel like I need to ask here again: because right now the only thing I can do to make things less shit is to spread the misery around as far and thin as I can.

Ringing bells is what I can do. So people ask me to do exactly that.
But it's been a dark December. And I said this in the server, and people understood:
I understand the emergency, both of you. I don't mind picking up the bullhorn again.
But I also feel like the Salvation Army bell-ringer who's waiting to go one clapper hit over someone's limit and get punched.
I did my part to help, and it looks like others are doing theirs too. I hope they’re able to make it.
The Healthcare industry in this country takes the attitude "Poor people don't get sick.".
You get 100 days free hospitalization. After that, you aint well you are expected to go somewhere it won't annoy your betters and die.
