The status of New Generation Girls · 2:53pm Oct 16th, 2023
Back when I was seven, shortly after I became a fan of the Friendship Is Magic series, I discovered that I had a passion for writing stories. For the next several years I wrote short stories in my spare time for my friends and family to read, honing my craft until in February of this year I decided to make the leap into becoming a full on fanfic writer.
My first ever story posted online was My Little Pony: New Generation Girls, a G5 EQG story that currently has five chapters published. If you’ve read the story you’ll know if suffered from infrequent updates, owning to me suffering weeks worth of writer’s block on every chapter past the second or third, and had author’s notes nearly as long as the chapters themselves. The book was last updated in late May, when I then briefly began work on chapter six before putting the story on hold briefly to work on a pride month special that turned out awful. I haven’t gone back to work on New Generation Girls since, safe for putting the story on hiatus, and here’s why.
I began working on the book on Valentine’s Day, but at the time I wasn’t very familiar with G5. I don’t have access to Netflix, so I was only vaguely familiar with the plot of the movie and the first two chapters, and didn’t know anything about chapter three except that they got the Manestream as a mode of transport. And since I began working on the book chapters four and five have come out. Now though, things are different. Thanks to a friend who does have Netflix I was able to see the movie up to the point where Sunny and Hitch confront Sprout outside Canterlogic, and have been able to track down live reactions to all of the Make Your Mark episodes on YouTube. I’m gonna be honest, I’m not proud of the current quality of the book, but since it’s my first even story posted online I don’t want to abandon it, so here’s my current plan.
The book will remain on hiatus with its five current chapters staying as they are until chapter six releases. Then, with the knowledge of how the cannon story plays out, I will build my story from the ground up. The five existing chapters will then be remastered, with the long authors notes removed and the chapters themselves modified to accommodate the new story. I will then work forward from there.
Yeah. That definitely sounds like a really good plan.
A good solid plan
