An Ookie-Spooky Update, and a Poll

October is here, and that means a great many things. The weather is cooling down out of the thirties and into the twenties, there's pumpkin spice everywhere (but I still have to make my own cider, which is fine because I always do it better anyway), and there's a whole bunch of horror-related things flitting about.

That last one is why I'm here.

    New Artwork

To any of you that read Emotional Compensation, the wonderfully talented Dragonborne Fox, who helped with the writing and did the cover art, was kind enough to create a new picture based on a scene from the first chapter. I have since added the image to the chapter right where it should be.

Good day to all of you.

After a year of telling myself to do so, I've finally gone and done what I had hoped to do a year before that. I've come up with a way of monetizing my writing.

An Ookie-Spooky Update, and a Poll · 6:18am Oct 13th, 2023

October is here, and that means a great many things. The weather is cooling down out of the thirties and into the twenties, there's pumpkin spice everywhere (but I still have to make my own cider, which is fine because I always do it better anyway), and there's a whole bunch of horror-related things flitting about.

That last one is why I'm here.

A few years ago, when asked to come up with an idea for a psychological horror story, I did just that, proposing a concept that I intended to build up. Regrettably, the people I was working with disbanded before we could finalise any of the details, aside from the basic premise and structure.

Well, a few years later, no one else has grabbed it and tried to run with it, and ideas themselves cannot be owned. So, here it is: A brand-new psychological horror, written for your reading pleasure.

Three friends, going camping in the woods, find themselves in a winding cave system that they can't seem to navigate.

Now, this story going up is going to mark a temporary hiatus for my current story, but that pause will not last for very long, and I'll go back to publishing it soon, but if I wait to post this story until after my current one, I'll probably be sending it out in December, and that's no time for horror.

Rest assured, it will not be long before I return to writing this:

Now, on to the next bit of business, it's time for another poll! For anyone who has given a follow since my last one of these, welcome. I'm glad you could make it.

From now until it's time to begin this story, I'm going to have all of you, or at least what of you choose to participate, vote for what story I'll be doing fairly soon-ish. Still a fair bit of time between then and when I'm writing this, but still, a finite, if obsequious, amount of time.

If you weren't involved in the first one, or you need a refresher, here are the rules: List your first choice first, your second choice second, and your third choice third. If you want to skip your remaining choices, that's fine, but you are allowed a maximum of three. Write their names down in a comment below.

Do not just upvote other people's choices. If you liked what they said, feel free to upvote them, if you didn't, feel free to downvote, but I will not count upvotes or downvotes. If you want me to hear your vote, you have to post it as a comment or an anonymous message.

As a new rule, you can vote anonymously by sending me a DM. I will then place that vote in the comments as an anonymous vote. Just make sure that the subject line says "poll" so that I know what you are talking about.

Whether you choose to write a comment or a DM, please keep it civil. I haven't had to say this so far, but I don't want to be forced to say it.

Ranking is as follows: Your first choice will receive a single vote. Your second choice will receive three-quarters of a vote, and your third choice will receive one-half of a vote.

In the event of a tie, I, as the author, receive exactly one vote, and can break the tie. I will announce the winner before I begin writing, also in the comments.

With that out of the way, here are the stories to pick from:

Watch Out for Opening Doors - Rated M for Violence and Gore

In a great many stories characters have been killed by a door opening or closing. In Atlantis: The Lost Empire, a bulkhead closes and some engineers drown. In Thir13en Ghosts (or so I'm told), there's a moment when someone is bisected by a closing door. And we all saw what happened to Twilight when Applejack opened the door to her new apple cellar in Feeling Pinkie Keen. In fact, that's the premise. How many ways can I come up with to have a door kill somepony, with Pinkie Pie being the only one who can stop it?

The Prince's Predicament, Part Two - Rated M for Sexual Activity

People either loved or hated the last one. The amount of comments condemning Cadance as a monster when the reality was far more accidental almost made me want to change the ending. It certainly changed the order of events, as Luna was originally not going to find out until later what really happened, and Cadance was going to be the one to realize that she'd gone too far and confess to Luna.

Either way, we're looking at a sequel. In this one, Cadance and Shining have to reconcile what happened in the first one, and decide what's going to change. Something has to change, because it can't stay the way it is.

Unicorns Disappear - Rated M for Sexual Activity

This is based off of the myth that unicorns are only visible to pure maidens. That is, those that are still virgins.

The main character here is a unicorn from Equestria who somehow ended up in EQG without transforming. He quickly finds out about his situation, and starts taking advantage of it, as he can always have the tightest of partners, and doesn't have to worry about them finding him later with a paternity suit.

Then he meets a girl who he actually likes. I really love the ending of this one.

Destitute - Rated T for Violence

A noble who's spent his entire life living high and mighty is suddenly without money and without a home. His friends were all snobs that were under the impression that wealth determined worth, and now he has none. He has to learn how homeless ponies manage in multiple scenarios, until he has no choices left.

I swear, there's actually a happy ending.

This one also has optional sex scenes. Let me know if you would rather it be rated M, as it doesn't move the plot forward. It's just stuff that happens, whether we see it or not.

The New Recruit - Rated T for Violence and Profanity

An earth pony joins the Wonderbolts. A legal battle ensues. There's a lot of stuff I want to say abut this one, but I'm remiss to spoil the best parts. To be more clear, the legal battle only comes into play at the end. Most of the story is just about the Wonderbolts recruitment process and how an earth pony managed to foil the whole thing. Insert meme of Spitfire being impressed: "You're an earth pony? That's an academy record!"

No joke, though, she is pretty impressed. That's one of the big things in this story.

Also, there are optional sex scenes that don't really impact the main plot, so if you wanted this to be rated M, let me know. It's a slight alteration.

Fluttershy's Nature Show: Season Two - Rated M for Sexual Activity (bestiality)

The sequel to Fluttershy's Nature Show. More of the same. If you didn't like that, you won't like this.

Harem Alliance - Rated M for Sexual Activity (zebra domination)

In order to stop a war force, Celestia outbids the invasion party and buys the mercenaries they'd hired. But she doesn't have the funds for that. No matter, there are other ways of extracting payment in the contract. Let's just hope the citizens are willing to pay the promised price for their safety.

An Anthology of the many tasks set before the citizens of Equestria.

There are already sections for this one that have been suggested, those being somnophilia, toilet slavery, and... I don't know whether it's still voyeurism if the watcher is still in the same room...

Revisionist History - Rated T for Violence and Profanity

"I mean that's the trouble with history--never anything like the books... Same as Stephen King movies." --The Doctor.

Puzzled by a few facts that don't exactly line up in the historical records of Hearth's Warming and its origins, Twilight travels back in time to see the events unfold right before her eyes. Things are not what they appeared to be at all. Chancellor Puddinghead and Private Pansy are not their real names.

There are planned sequels for this one already, being the fall of the Crystal Empire, which is pretty short, and the creation of Nightmare Moon, which is significantly less short.

This also ties into Mountain of Misfortune, but in lore only. If you read that after reading this one, those paintings may not seem so strange.

Post your votes below or send me a message. If you opt for anonymity, I will know your name, but no one else will. If you want to suggest something for one of the stories, include that with your vote, and I will consider whether to add it or not.

Thank you all very much for reading, and hopefully participating,
--Kiernan

Sometime in the future of course, not right now.
