Project update (more Dinky) · 9:22am Oct 3rd, 2023
This week, my free time for actually writing has been assassinated due to a number of coinciding circumstances, but I'm taking advantage of the sporadic free moments (and discussions with Duvet) to further plan out what's happening with Dinky.
Yeah, Dinky is a real boat-rocker because of her extremely gifted teleportation skills. That doesn't make her a bad character, it just makes her a bit challenging to work into a pre-existing story.
I've got six chapters (specifically chapters 16-21) which are pretty much perfect. I wouldn't edit them at all. But those chapters were written without our cute little teleporter. Now, I'm working her into the story, and we spent a few hours last night talking about how that might go without feeling "tacked on" which is the last thing you want in a story. She needs to be properly integrated, but smartly written in a way that feels absolutely natural and doesn't change the events of the story. But the most important thing is that Dinky's very presence doesn't destroy the plot. Being able to teleport like she does means certain serious obstacles our characters have to deal with are easily overcome. That must be avoided at all costs.
We think we have a solution, but it's going to slow down production somewhat. It means I won't have a long string of chapters that are just publish-ready. Will have to work on writing Dinky into each one. And with the limited free time I have, that means it's likely to take longer than a week per chapter unfortunately. I may have to start switching to a two-week publishing cycle effective immediately, just to maintain regularity while dealing with the extra workload. Same thing happened with Flurry in Time, honestly. Started off weekly then switched to every two weeks. Of course with that story, there were other crazy things toward the end that caused serious slowdowns. With luck, life won't toss any curveballs my way and I plan on keeping blog posts coming regularly to let everyone know the state of things.
At the moment, my writing task will be to do the 2nd half of chapter ten. First half is done and looks good. Just need to wrap it up, but I don't think I can do that by Saturday.
I am sure you figure something out but can help if you need. And i apprechiate your fondness of her.
You know, you could make a little joke scene with her

I've got it mostly figured out. But the difficulty is purely having to do with making sure her teleporting doesn't alter the flow of events. There's some pretty heavy stuff that happens in chapter 21 where Dinky could easily just solve the dilemma if she were present. Can't have that, so we've been discussing how to make sure her involvement doesn't change the way things play out. Can't really get more specific than that without spoilers.

okay. the joke scne if i may, that a friend thinks he messed up and runs away but she easily catches up and teases like "You won't get rid of me that easily" or somnething

oh, well again, that's not the kind of problem I'm having. Writing her characterization is easy. Making sure her ability doesn't derail the plot is hard.

Of course. The joke, just popped in
