Release the WebbCuts · 4:56pm Aug 29th, 2023

As quoted from the petition's main page:

Not too long ago, I took a gander at the two “The Amazing Spider-Man” films, the biggest reason for why being because I saw Andrew Garfield, Rhys Ifans, and Jamie Foxx reprise their respective roles from those movies in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. I found the two films to be incredibly enjoyable and worthwhile, I’ll tell you that.

However, in spite of enjoying them, I also found myself underwhelmed.

The first film seemed particularly undermined by choppy editing and inconsistency in the storytelling. A prime example is that, despite Peter’s backpack and the suit still being in Gwen Stacy’s apartment, as well as leaving to help the people on the bridge, Peter suddenly has the backpack and is able to put the suit on. Other than that, Dr. Curt Conners/The Lizard was deeply underdeveloped due to several of his scenes being cut before the film’s theatrical release, especially to where he was reduced to a mere sideshow. There were even some alternate versions of scenes from the film that honestly would’ve been better than the ones presented.

The second film suffered from similar problems, only worse, which I believe is why it earned such a polarizing reception. Just like Curt Conners, Harry Osborn was underdeveloped as a character, particularly when he became the Green Goblin. The story itself also appeared to be too overbalanced in some ways, which caused it to lack cohesion in some aspects.

All in all, I feel that Columbia should totally release the director’s cuts of the two “The Amazing Spider-Man” movies, especially to clear up and remedy the kind of problems I mentioned. It surprises me that the studio hasn’t even released the clearly existing director’s cuts of the films, because that’d truly make them a lot of money. Cheers for the link. Releasing such cuts shouldn't be too hard in this day and age, as editing digitally stored footage together is a surprisingly simple process.

I'll repost this on my page.

I honestly have doubts with signing petitions. :/

I mean... do they ever succeed and make headline news? :T

It worked for Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” film.

5744471
Yeah, but that was only a miracle though in that working.

5744474
Well, to me, it also means that it’s worth a shot and it never hurts to try.

5744476
I guess. :/ But I still have my doubts. :/

Understandable.

In the end, I’m just hoping to make a difference in things. I mean, “The Amazing Spider-Man” films were good, but for some reason…there were too many plot deficiencies, flaws, and signs of executive meddling to make the movies 100% perfect.
