maybe in a world of odd people and odd things, I'm not so odd after all. But who knows. (they/them)

India have landed their spacecraft on the Moon · 1:15pm Aug 23rd, 2023

They're the fourth country to make it all the way there. They're also the first to land on the moon's south pole. That's really cool. Taking a holiday to the moon is still a long way off (and even if it becomes an option in the future I don't think my bank account would appreciate it) but it's progress. Maybe we'll learn a few things about our planet and its little friend over the next few months.

Yupp, it's quite an achievement. Congrats to them!

Better than what England has been able to accomplish so far. Our Virgin Galactic rocket a few months ago barely made it off the ground before it blew up. Pretty much the only space travel us Brits are capable of is in Doctor Who XD

Still better than Poland, haha. We've only ever had one person in space, and can't even make good sci-fi movies 😭

Unexpected but its a huge step for them. Funny if you think about the irony that started the moon landing back then.

Moon Landings
India- 1
UK- 0

Army Size
India- 1,450,000
UK- 75,000 to 80,000

You have us beat in nukes, but I can just represent the U.S. for that metric :ajsmug:

India's population at the beginning of the year was estimated to be 1,425,771,530 people. They've got an army of around 1,450,000. My calculator is saying that around 0.1% of India's population is in the army. The UK's population was estimated to be around 68,992,721 people at the start of the year. Let's say there's 75,000 people in the army. That means we've got about 0.11% of our country's population in our army. The proportion of people in the army in comparison to the total population in both the UK and India is about the same. The only reason our army is smaller is because we're a tiny little island off the coast of France, not a 3.29 million square kilometre monster of a country with more than a billion people, lol. Your facts mean nothing, and hey, we'll get to the moon eventually. Give it ten years, give or take two, and the sound of nearly seventy million people singing Sweet Caroline will be heard across the globe, followed swiftly by every British boomer ever playing this old masterpiece of a song. :rainbowlaugh:
