Angel Midnight

maybe in a world of odd people and odd things, I'm not so odd after all. But who knows. (they/them)

I got a phone call with a psychologist today. I'm going to get referred to the doctors who can actually help me with my mental health. The guy couldn't diagnose anything because it was only a short phone call and he wasn't qualified enough to do so, but he seemed to think that there's a fair chance of me having the 'tism. So maybe there is an explanation for all of my weirdness :rainbowlaugh:

Hope the rest of you are having a good day,

Welcome to the 'tism club 🥴

I've suspected for a while, but I've never actually been able to speak to a doctor about whether or not it's the case - until now, of course. I just kind of want the answers as to why I struggle so much with all of the things that people tell me I should find easy. I can write stories and essays about cartoon horses, and I can get decent grades at school, but I struggle with tying my shoelaces and leaving the house, let alone walking through crowds or looking at people when I talk to them. :twilightoops:

You too, huh? :twilightblush:

I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (which is on the old 'tism spectrum), about a year or so ago, with very similar symptoms. Well, I guess I've also had a hard time interacting with people at all, but that's mostly a similar thing. All in all though, I can definitely say I'm glad you're finally getting the help you need. It's important - naturally - and also goes a long way towards solving, or at least helping, your problems.

People often tend to ridicule self-diagnosis in the case of non-doctors, and while I do understand why that is and some people certainly do embellish these things, there is also often no other way for us to really get an idea of what might be going on, or at least that tends to be the case for a long time, until we can find our way to a specialist. For me though, for example, all the social interactions that need to be performed to get an appointment are quite a challenge; even just asking my parents to help me is, and I tend to procrastinate a lot with that. So, yeah... there is often simply no way to get a proper diagnosis in any sensible timeframe.

Boy do I know the struggles of trying to get appointments. I gave up for a long time because I felt like I wasn't being taken seriously by my GP, and because the whole "speaking to people" issue was too much to cope with. This phone cal today felt like taking a million steps forwards in terms of progress. It'll probably take at least a year and a half to two years to get a diagnosis, but I'm at least on the waiting list now, so with some luck it'll pay off and I'll finally get an explanation for why I am the way I am.

:yay:

In case you do get any meds, don't forget to send me some for umm.... sales purposes :raritywink:

I'll give my serious response via PM later

This is why you need to be stepped on

I nearly spat out my morning coffee reading that. How dare you attempt to waste such a valuable resource as a hot beverage early in the morning. I'll see you in hell :rainbowlaugh:
