Finding Cadence · 12:28am Jul 10th, 2023
Kicking around ideas and approaches for the next few pieces of writing, I've realized that, since it will be from Cadance's perspective, I really need to find not only a character voice for her but an actual cadence in writing. Also to flesh out her character further 😒
It can be tough, considering that I am a early-middle-aged, grim straight man who can be perceived as the direct opposite of a pony Princess of Love from a magical land.
It might take some time. I had a similar problem when I needed to write from Twilight's perspective, and figuring out what she is all about took me weeks.
Cadance is a pretty integral character for a plot about romance with Chrysalis taken seriously, because they can be seen in many ways as reflections of each other while being heavily built around the themes of love. You can't really thoroughly discuss one in the setting, without touching up on another.
Before securing a conception of the plot in the past year (time sure flies), I went through multiple iterations of how the connection between Cadance and Chrysalis, thematic or otherwise, would play out. They both can be much more than can be seen on the surface...
But suffice it to say, they will never be on friendly terms here. Nope. Can't see that happening.
Aaaaanyway, TL;DR, I need to research before we continue this thriller story, because I apparently like to not only challenge reader with my style of writing, but myself as well. Maybe I will learn how to actually fully prewrite in the future
I don't expect that it will take too long.
What a strange take on writing. I think most of us here (or at least a good bit of us) would be terrible at actually writing these characters as they'd actually be.
I think there's a consensus that we're writing how we perceive these characters... or at least how we want them to be perceived.
That being said that's why I always comment with "your". I like your Chrysalis, I like your Twilight, I like your Celestia. Because these fictions we write are, essentially, our versions of said characters.
In summation, you better do Cadance justice, she's precious.
I haven't forgotten what Chrys did to her.

I know, it's my general take on characters in writing of others too. They are projections, etc.
Of course, my own view on these characters will be just an interpretation too
But I just want to take that extra step beyond, you know? To be satisfied with myself. To do research. To see what tropes and ideas original creators intended, and how I can play around with them to fit and twist into my dark narrative, which is heavily based on canon. It's fun for me, this worldbuilding...
I know already that there is at least two characters with whom I will diverge from canon fairly significantly, but it will be mostly because they lacked proper characterization/backstory anyway. Well, one of them at least.

Lol, I'd say the creators (excluding Faust, obviously.) dropped the ball on literally everyone and I'd prefer it if canon was mostly ignored with my stories.
That's just me though. I loathe the later writers and what they did to Faust's characters.

I am dissatisfied with later seasons too, more or less 😉
You'll see. In some regard it is a fix-fic

Lmao, great minds think alike. That was the point of my first story, End. Fix what they ruined while acknowledging that it unfortunately existed.
