Okay. Somebody left the front gate open, and Baked Bean has gotten out and wandered off again.
If you happen to spot him, do not approach, do not get him wet, do not expose to direct sunlight, and whatever you do, don't feed him after midnight. (It makes him gassy.)
On the page where McHenry records the events of the last day of the convention, September 18, 1787, he wrote: “A lady asked Dr. Franklin Well Doctor what have we got a republic or a monarchy – A republic replied the Doctor if you can keep it.”
Much like a fish may not realize they are in water, I've been swimming in this republic sea for all of my life. Our constitution is a rare thing in this world, specifically giving the federal government only the powers it enumerates, stating a wide swath of things which it is forbidden, and leaving the rest to the states. Since its formation, a great number of politicians have nibbled around the edges like ducks, but it remains (for the most part) a structure the Founding Fathers would recognize as theirs, and not the impersonal foreign regime they rose up against. Thankfully.

And yet you Yanks can't get enough of our accents.

I'll have you know I both own and use a tea kettle. :)

You celebrate Roman candles, pies and guns?
Cute. I'll enjoy our Bank Holidays, and about 25 days of paid holiday.
5736340
Well, at least one third of that. :)
Will do.
5736339
You do?
Okay, I now respect you a lot more. As for the rest of the tea-microwaving monsters? Well...
