Worldbuilding Workout Issue #4 · 12:15am Apr 6th, 2023
"Yeah...I do."
I'm back to MLP-centric analysis for the revival issue of Worldbuilding Workout, and of one of my lesser talked about favorite characters, no less.
Firehorse best horse, leave your counters at the door. I left a coat rack for them!
I really am interested in your headcanon take-on with Spitfire and Fleetfoot's relationship. It makes me curious if we'll see a glimpse of it in any future works
Oh! I must have missed that you'd transformed your website into Monochromatic-esque home for your Fanfics and to better foster a community. Huh.
As for the Worldbuilding Workout Issue, great delve. I've always been more forgiving of Spitfire's behaviour in Wonderbolt Academy then most, though again we see a difference with something like Rainbow Falls, where I'm not bothered to find in-universe justification for Spitfire's behaviour, and just state "terrible writing of the week". And honestly, for Spitfire, it might have been excusable were it not for her dodging blame with her "You really are something, Rainbow Dash. Saw it at the academy, seeing it again here. We could learn a lot from you" line. That's just… no, just no. Out of universe reason for her behaviour's enough for me.
Especially as I've seen the production documents for that episodes (among others ) and know the initial draft proposed the role of the Bolts' being taken by new characters that were old rivals of Dash's from Cloudsdale. Which would have been so much better, both for avoiding them being authority figures that we'd be upset by this behaviour, and for slotting in with all the other Key guest stars that season being new characters. Like, come on, Meghan McCarthy/Hasbro, seriously?
Still, point remains that I've never been one for the fanfics that make Spitfire out to be a villain, or even just a terrible pony, even if I can't quite go as far in the other direction as being all that fond of her on a personal level. But you wrote a good blog on her.

Yup, Mono's site was the inspiration I needed to build my own site. Revue, what I used for my first three issues was a subsidiary site under Twitter and discontinued due to that ongoing dumpster fire. I got in contact with the creator of Mono's theme and he helped me get my own site set up using the theme he'd created. Thankfully I got everything transferred over.
Her attempt to dodge blame definitely made everything worse. I wish she'd nixed that line and just stayed with apologizing to Soarin at most. Glad you appreciated the blog!
