Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

Still waiting on Midnight Rising prereads...

Which are particularly important this time, because the first preread I got back was negative. As it came from AJ_Aficionado, whose opinions I particularly value mostly because he’s more interested in the story than the sex, I tend to give what he said about it credence but still want to hear from everyone else before I start making changes to the new chapter.

Mind changed on removing the griffon arc from Midnight Rising + teaser

After receiving pleas from multiple readers to keep the Enter the Griffon chapters in place, I have decided to do so and go with my original plan, which was to simply offer new readers the chance

    One final thing...

I have been advised by no less an authority than CHS acting Vice-Principal Ms. Cheerilee to use the upcoming Midnight Rising chapter as strictly a recap to relaunch the story, and not get into Lemon Zest until the following chapter, when I can devote a full entry to it without any split in focus. No, really. She did. You’ll see what I mean when the chapter launches, but basically, I’m

C&C Part 34 launches tonight plus some personal news · 2:54pm Mar 29th, 2023

Prereads are in, and they’re favorable, with the chapter currently weighing in at 14.8k words. So I’ll be launching the chapter tonight after one more editing pass. And looking ahead, the next C&C chapter is at 7100 words and growing. It’ll probably be double that when all is said and done, at least for the M-rated version. Just as before, the T-rated version will be considerably less, but still have substantial content that shows the (figurative) climax of the Gilda vs Cipio battle, and set the ground rules going forward for how they (meaning Gilda, Cipio, and the Changelings) will work together/how the Marines will be used.

Once that’s done—I’ll aim for its release in ten days—the mini story arc is complete and it’s back to Eros as we head into April. Following that, it had been my intention to start working on my long-languishing anthro novel again, but I find myself hesitating, thinking that I should work more on Unleash the Magic first and see about putting a push on to finish at least the Midnight Rising rewrite, clearing the decks to work on the big climax of Nightmare Night (figuratively and literally) throughout the late summer and fall.

With regards to Midnight Rising, I know readers are eager to see Midnight’s punishment for Zesty, especially now with the griffon arc wrapping up. Sorry but not sorry for the sideshow, folks, as I’ve immensely enjoyed writing it, and it will factor in heavily to the Nightmare Night climax and Midnight vs Eclipse action.

But I’ll worry about that later and let everyone know when a decision is reached. As for what’s happening on the personal front, it’s not so much bad news as bummer news. I saw the specialist that I hoped would be able to give me the final fix to my sleep apnea, only to be told that the recommended procedure probably wouldn’t help. Reason being, it targets the area above the soft palate, but my lateral airway collapse extends well below that, where there’s nothing they can pin the at-fault muscles to.

So that’s it, then. I’ve exhausted all possible surgical fixes at this point, leaving me just two options to improve my remaining symptoms:

1) Lose weight. Though I run, weightlift, and hike religiously—I look pretty swole—I could definitely afford to shed my belly of about 25 or 30 pounds. Or 2), there’s something called the Inspire system where they implant a pacemaker-like device in you which is wired into a nerve that controls the tongue. When turned on, it prevents the tongue from relaxing backwards into the airway and blocking it, which is effective against certain forms or degrees of apnea. They think it would help my version of it, though there’s no guarantee. It is reversible, at least. If it doesn’t work, they can remove it.

One more thing to think about going forward. It is still a major bummer, though, so forgive me for venting. I have the one airway collapse issue that they can’t fix surgically. The surgeries I’ve already had done knocked out around 80% of my original symptoms, but the final twenty percent, including snoring and some difficulty sleeping on my back, remain. I guess it’s just my particular cross to bear at this point. If I do decide to go for Inspire, I’ll let folks know.
