Well I did it! I gave Spike a family! It's not the first time it's been done in fan-works, but I'm glad to have joined the mix!
I was really excited to get this one done to reveal to everyone my big secret about how Buttercream is Spike's sister. I know it probably still doesn't make much sense as to how they never met prior to this story, but there's another reason why it never happened then. That reason will be explained later on in MLSiaD. That's why Butter told Twilight that they'd go over that another time when she meets Nightwatch.
Oh, speaking of which: yeah, who saw it coming that I'd be hinting at Nightwatch and Twilight possibly being a romantic couple? 
I'm sure it already seemed obvious with the final chapter of the Nightmare Moon Arc of MLSiaD hinting at both of them being set up as pen-pals. I wasn't going to talk about that in this story, but since Butter was meeting Twilight, it wouldn't be right for her to not mention Nighty to her and Twilight would obviously recognize that name since she found his journal years ago and mailed it back to him. Twilight and Nightwatch still haven't met which means they won't be meeting in MLSiaD, but we'll get to it. He's off doing his own thing right now and there's a lot that will be going on in MLSiaD anyway, but stay tuned because he'll be called to appear in FHS another time.
Now as for Grandpa Rubble: I do have plans to use him later on this season, but that won't be for a while. He's not a bad dragon, he's just prejudiced against ponies, and that brings me to another thing: the history of the division between ponies and dragons. In my headcanon, Celestia banishing Nightmare Moon drove a huge wedge into the relations that Equestria had with other non-ponies like the dragons. If you've ready my other story "Age of the Alicorns: Chaos Rising", you'll see that Celestia and Luna have two little dragon friends and there's another bigger dragon named Grumblebog. At this point, ponies and dragons are forming alliances and moving to a more unified world, but after Luna's banishment, it causes the dragons to lose faith in Celestia. Similar to how we hear some fans go on about how Celestia is horrible for doing that to Luna, I wondered if some characters in-universe could think the same. I think we all know Celestia did that because she had no choice and she did it very reluctantly, but she wasn't able to convince everyone that she meant well. Celestia spent the next few years of her leadership in complete turmoil. Non-ponies would break off ties because they thought Equestria no longer represented peace and unity and that they should not associate with a tyrant. Even some ponies in Equestria lost faith in their leader. Over time these feelings waned and the story of Nightmare Moon was treated like legend with some even dismissing the prophecy that she would return 1000 years after her imprisonment. We'll explore the whole thing with dragons allying themselves with Equestria again in MLSiaD. Nordo Dracos has just become an ally to Equestria now with Spike's reunion and Rubble no longer being king, and we'll see how he takes this news later on when he shows up.
Well guys, it's been a blast writing this story. I still think it's a huge missed opportunity that we never got to see Spike find his family, but we still have fanworks to cover for that. This story was going to be placed more towards the end of Season 1, but I couldn't wait any longer to write it and I managed to make it fit where it was eventually placed. I know most people depict Spike having a family that's kinda mean due to how we saw the dragons acting in "Dragon Quest" and such, but my idea of Northern Drakes being more docile had to be used and I had decided that Spike was that type of dragon. I'm not sure, but I think I designed Percy, Penny, and Grumblebog before "Dragon Quest" aired so I had already cemented that into my head for Northern Drakes. Well Spike's family is a very good one in this and their personalities turned out just like I wanted. If you're interested in what I decided their voices to be like, click here.
Now for "Oh Mother, Where Art Thou?" next. This one is also going to hit you pretty hard. I will cry writing it and you will cry reading it.

Really enjoyed this story regarding Spike's real family, wished the show gave our purple drake this instead of misleading us but your story make up for it Alex!
Will be interesting to see later on in Buttercream's story why they didn't meet up sooner
also both Twilight/Nightwatch have no chance against their scaly shipper sibs, it's only a matter of time!😅

Yeah, I can’t wait to use Butter for more of this story. Sadly it’s going to be a while before Nightwatch shows up in FHS, but there will still be more of him in MLSIAD.
