Well, crud. Chapter 8 issue...can any-pony help? · 4:12pm Dec 24th, 2022
Happy Hearth Warming, every-pony, I hope you're doing well. I, however, am not doing so great. Last night, I had a read-through of Chapter 8 for "The Sixth Alicorn." It had been completed and revised to an extent I considered complete. I was actually proud of some of the revisions, it almost seemed like semi-professional prose! I intended to spend Christmas Eve reading through it one last time. I saved it, closed it, and went to bed. Today I went to open it up for this final review, only to realize I had a prior version, the one from after my first revision. I can't find yesterday's file anywhere!
I should back up. My computer re-booted itself back on the 12th, so when I booted up Word, it had "Chapter 8" up as autosaved files. I picked the one that was closer to date and "saved as" that file. I was under the assumption that was saving to the proper "Chapter 8" file, but I appear to be wrong. I was still saving for the last week and a half, so I closed the file yesterday believing it would still be there. I was clearly mistaken.
Does anyone know if there's a way I can find that missing file? I really don't fancy repeating the last two revisions, and then wonder if it's anything like that final draft I had completed. If I can find it today, I might be able to update either this evening or on Boxing Day. Otherwise, it might be New Years or later before I can update "The Sixth Alicorn."
Sorry everyone.

1. In MS Word, click the File Tab in the upper left
2. Click Manage Document and select Recover Unsaved Documents from the drop-down list.
3. Check for your missing file in the dialog box. If it was a recent loss it should appear.
4. Open the recovered Word document and click the Save As button in the top banner.
Hope it helps
Thanks very much for the suggestion! Unfortunately, I have already tried that, and came up negative. It’s clear that I’m going to have to re-edit Chapter Eight, and hope I remember how I edited it. At the least, it’s saving to the right file now. I have 12k words over 28 pages to shift through, so it’ll likely take me the next couple of weeks to run through it. I’m hoping to have it posted on or before twelfth night, so it’s “technically” released on Christmas.

In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men
Gang aft agley,
An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain,
For promis’d joy!”

How's it going with the chapter 8 complication ?

I’ve had to re-edit again. I’m not quite as satisfied with it, but I’m on my last read through of it. It should go up sometime this week.
