Some thoughts about SnS and CCCRHW because it's been a long time since I made a blog · 9:58pm Dec 15th, 2022
In the time I've been in the fandom, I've read a lot of fanfics here. Actually, maybe my level of English improved because of just that. And well, as a way to give back something to this fandom I wrote some silly stories here and there, I never thought they would be relevant at all.
And then, back in the hiatus between season 6 and 7, I started to write an old school HiE because you know, no one has done that before, right? The thing is, I had a few ideas in mind, and out of all of them, I decided to use the small amount of writing will I had to pour it into that story, and then, an unnamed story began to take form. The original is still called 'Project Fic' in my archives.
The motivation to write it was a mix of many things. For example, I remember a fic about human x Fluttershy, but it was uncomplete and kind of... well, it became weird. I also took a lot of inspiration from "Your Human and You", where the ‘ponies think I’m an animal’ part came, I used to talk about that fic with my friends a lot, and one of them, one day, talking about the language barrier, told me that he would use a really different language, like using intonation or other stuff and not articulated words like the human languages, and then I thought that ponies from the show were kind of musical, so the decision of making them use songs to talk was made.
I had many ideas, mostly from what I would have liked from other stories but didn’t get. Stories with amazing concepts that after a few chapters left me wondering if that concept could have been handled better. Anons in Equestria were kind of fun to read, but I didn’t want to call the guy ‘Anon’. Then, there was a Spanish book called “Sin Noticias de Gurb” about an alien coming to Barcelona, and it gave me the trick I was looking for: Making the interactions with the main character in a way his name was never mentioned, so it would be an anonymous character without the ‘Anon’ name. In that book, all chapters ended up with the alien telling he still had no news from his companion Gurb, therefore the title. I found it funny, and used that structure to round up all the chapters, but with the phone and “Still no Signal” and that ended up giving a name to the story.
I wrote a lot of that story, but in the end, I lost steam and left it for a few years untouched, then, trying to write a chapter again, I ended up creating Cheery Cheeky Cheesy Romance Hoers Words unintentionally, and as a tribute to the old 'Project Fic' I decided to kind of publish it.
And that was a surprise. The silly little thing got good ratings and comments, and that fueled me to continue and finish it, so we got that story done. Once it was done, I was left with the doubt... Should I give the old 'Project Fic' another shot? I had over 100 pages written and a clear idea of where the story was headed and how it would end. With the 'sequel' already out, I realized it already had a point of reference to finish it, so it would be less likely I end up abandoning it.
I started to upload chapters and it was mostly okay, for a time, kind of what I expected, another out of the mill, average story with a couple of guys interested in it, but it started to get more and more ratings and then, on the 6th of October of 2022, I found it at the bottom part of the feature box. It was brief, and it was in the second to last position, but it felt like an achievement unlocked for me. I never thought one of my stories would make the cut. And then, over and over, every time I publish a new chapter, it usually hits the feature, for which I’m incredibly thankful to all of you for your interest.
About the story and it’s direction. I’m running out of buffer, but the good news is that I’ve managed to write a completely new chapter these days (everything up to this point was edited stuff from the original, and I still got something more to go), so I got the block off and it is moving again, and I have a few more situations I want to play out.
I’m working on something ‘extra’ for Cheery Cheesy Cheeky Romance Hoers Words too, and once SnS is done, and CCCRHW gets extra stuff, I may plan for a real sequel in this little universe I’m creating with all this headcanon, your comments and ideas from long time ago.
SnS is not perfect, it never was meant to be, just a fun to read, good enough story, but with all the time I’ve left it alone, now when I come back to re-read what I did back in the day I kind of get a semi outsider view, and can relate to the many flaws in its development. Some of those flaws I have corrected through some editing, other flaws you have pointed out in the comments, but overall, I think this is being a nice experience.
I might talk about what motivated me to write and publish CCCRHW in a future blog, but I want to reach a certain chapter in SnS to do so.
Thank you very much for your feedback, and see you soon.
