Fourteen hour work days are not conducive to my writing.
HELP
So I've been a little busy lately, but I'm finally back into the swing of things!
Aside from getting a pretty good clip going on A Scratch on Shining Armor, I've also been reading quite a lot of stories lately. So I thought I'd share some thoughts on some of the stories that have had me in their clutches in the past week.
No dividing this one up, I got zero shit done this week.
First I was plagued by writer's block, then when I actually got some inspiration and motivation I was at a Cage The Elephant concert on Friday night, then I was on a 24 hour stream to reset my sleep schedule. I would've written on the stream, but I was supposed to participate in the activities on stream and didn't want to forsake that.
So yeah, sorry guys.
My writer's block is not going away.
Any tips or advice on how to kickstart my creativity?
A Scratch On Shining Armor: A new chapter released on Saturday, as is the norm now. I was really having trouble with it, as I ran into some writer's block for the majority of the week. I wrote the bulk of it last sunday and just finished it in the wee hours of Saturday morning. Shout out to my editor, Shrink Laureate for being da real MVP and editing it before I published it. He's insanely talented and easily one of the reasons this story hasn't gone off the rails yet. Please give him
A Scratch On Shining Armor: This is the big one, kiddos. Newest chapter released yesterday and people had some stuff to say about it. Namely about the Celestia and Cadance portion of the story. I'll admit I wasn't happy with it, and that I even contemplated rewriting the entire thing the night before posting it. I didn't though, as I was afraid I would chicken out of a few decisions I made and do something rash.
Okay so last night I had a bit of a sobering thought while looking at 'A Scratch On Shining Armor'. It's been up on Fimfiction for almost two years, and the original draft of the first chapter turned three last week.
This isn't acceptable to me and it's sure as hell not acceptable for the people who like that story.
So I'm going to try and keep to a schedule from now on. Every Saturday I'm going to upload a new chapter of 'A Scratch on Shining Armor' until it is completed.
So if you don't know, a channel is doing a reading of my story 'A Scratch On Shining Armor'. The channel is Nimbus Productions and they're pretty legit. I was talking to the guy who runs the show over there, and apparently they had plans to do an original radio play but the writer bailed on them. I asked to take a look at the scripts and found myself impressed at the ideas and the writing.
So I've been debating this for awhile, but after some prodding from a reader I decided to Re-Tag 'A Scratch On Shining Armor'.
The first few chapters are relatively funny and focus on the present. But during the one year break, things changed. It was originally supposed to be a feel-good romp about forgiveness. Now it's a pretty sad and dramatic affair.
Does this mean the humor and light-hearted was are gone? No. The next chapter is going to be pretty fun, I think.
So I submitted 'A Scratch On Shining Armor' to EqD the other day saying it was 'unique and ambitious but it has problems'. Many of those problems stemmed from simple typing errors or grammatical mistakes. Now lucky for me, a nice user named Shrink Laureate who checked all of my work and sent me a very good message on how to fix it.
