Won The Battle, But Losing The War

After a couple of rounds several bands were defeated and the Dazzlings and Melody absorbed the hatred that they all produced. It all came down to the semifinals: Crusaders vs. The Dazzlings, Flash band vs. Melody, and Trixie and the Illusions vs. The Rainbooms. Twilight made progress with the counter-spell, but she wasn't sure whether it might work or not.

The Crusaders were back stage with only two minutes till showtime. "Alright Crusaders, this is the semis, so we need to rock!" Apple Bloom said while making the rock symbol with her fingers.

"Actually, I have another idea. I swiped these from my sister." Sweetie Bell said as she pulled a rack with clothes.

"WOW!" Scootaloo said as she looked at the clothes.

"Up next the Crusaders!" Principal Luna said from out front.

The Crusaders gasped as they only had a minute to change.

Out front the Rainbooms were standing next to the stage with Rarity and Applejack feeling quite nervous. "Shouldn't you all be practicing for the counter-spell?" Melody asked.

"Our little sisters are about to go up against your older sisters. So we're a little nervous." Applejack said.

"Oh, I get it." Melody said. She knew what it was like for them as the opposing band was her sisters.

Piano music started playing and the curtains opened out. It revealed the Crusaders pop dresses with unique designs. Red apples on Apple Bloom's, blue diamonds on Sweetie Bell's, and rainbow lightning bolts on Scootaloo's. They were standing on steps and were in seated positions.

Rarity gasped and started to cry. "Oh, Sweetie Bell!" Rarity began to full on cry. "HOW COULD YOU!" Rarity said hysterically.

"Whats the matter Rarity?" Applejack asked.

"Those clothes they're wearing, I designed them!" Rarity said even more hysterically.

"Seriously?! You're upset about the clothes again?!" Applejack said angerly.

"Its not just that! It took me forever to get those patterns just right! But what I can't understand is how Sweetie Bell could have sown those together so fast?"

"Maybe you two have more in common than you think." Melody said.

I piano piece started to play in the background and the Crusaders started their song.

The song ended. Everyone cheered and clapped. Melody looked and saw that her sisters were clapping too, but probably out of the fact that they were gonna crush them.

"Wow. That was really good." Rainbow Dash said.

The Dazzlings then walked by the Rainbooms and Melody. They gave each other a sneer when they passed the Rainbooms, but gave a friendly smile to Melody as they passed her, completely ignorant to what she was doing. The continued to walked back stage.

"Almost there. We are almost there." Sonata said to her sisters. She was so exited she was going to burst.

"Yeah. Only one major problem: the Rainbooms still aren't under our spell. Without their magic, how exactly are we supposed to conquer this world?!" Aria said impatiently.

"Don't worry Aria. We have plenty of time." Adagio said to her sister.

The Crusaders played their song , which was epic, bringing in a lot of applause.

"Next is: The Dazzlings!" Principal Celestia said.

The Dazzlings walked on stage. "Oh my sisters. Let's give them a real taste of what we can really do." Adagio said as she stroked her pendant.

The song caused everyone to fight and bicker so much it was almost overwhelming. The massive feast of negative emotions was feed upon by the Dazzlings and by Melody as well.

Quickly after the Dazzlings finished their song Principal Celestia announced the winner of the semi final round. "Well, I am sorry to say that the Crusaders have been eliminated. That means that the first band to earn a spot in the finals is the Dazzlings!" Celestia said.

The Dazzlings walked behind stage where Melody was waiting. "Nice one." She said.

"Oh, thanks." Adagio said.

"Oh, Sonata, I heard the taco truck broke down in front of the school. They're getting rid of the tacos so they won't go bad." Melody said.

"WHAT?!" Sonata said. She grabbed Adagio and Aria's wrists and literally flew out the door.

"Wow." Rainbow said as she and the rest of her band entered through the door Sonata went through. "The only time I've seen anybody move that fast was when Pinkie Pie heard the cupcake factory was giving free samples."

"Well, I can't have my sisters in here when I sing my big song. So I told her a taco truck broke down out front." Melody said.

"Is there?" Rarity asked.

"Well…" Melody trailed off. "I might have called and…persuaded the driver to drive by the school…where there may or may not have been a sharp piece of Rarity's clothing from earlier in the road…that might or might not have caused a flat tire."

"So you basically hypnotized a taco truck driver to drive by the school where you placed a piece of Rarity's broken clothes on the road to give it a flat so that your sisters won't be in here?" Applejack summed up.

"Maybe…?"

"Melody Minor that is incredibly devious!" Rarity said.

"Well, I am a Siren. And this is for the greater good!" Melody said.

"Melody that is kind of hypocritical." Twilight said.

"Look, I'm not saying I'm proud of what I did, but I did what I had to do!"

There was clapping out in the audience, the Flash band finished playing their song. Flash walked by and gave Twilight a dirty look, which caused her to tear a little.

"The next act of the second round of the semifinals is Melody Minor!" Celestia announced.

"Okay girls. With my sisters out of the way I can unleash my song." Melody said. She walked on stage and touched her pendant. She was gonna put everything she had into this song. She only did small songs before but this one was going to be a big one.

The song was starting work its literal magic on the students. They started to smile at each other and be friendly too.

As the students became friendly to one another a pink mist was being emitted from the students. This mist went unseen by everyone except Melody. This was stronger than before, which was good. The pendant she possessed started to glow and absorb the mist.

She finished feeding off the positive energy the students created. But as she did she looked at her pendant and noticed it was a lighter hue of red than before.

"Well, that was an exelaint performance!" Celestia commented. "While it sad to say that another band has been eliminated. Melody Minor… you advance to the final round! The final round of the semifinals will begin with Trixie and the Illusions!"

Melody ran back stage to meet her friends. She was excited that their plan was working. "You guys, it works! My spell really softened my sisters' spell!" She said excitedly.

"Great job Melody." Twilight told Melody.

"Thanks. Good luck winning."

"We don't need luck to win." Rainbow Dash told her.

"Do you think the counter-spell is ready to be performed now while everyone is more friendly and the spell is soften?"

"No…not yet. I'm almost done!" Twilight said hastily. "By tonight's performance the counter-spell will absolutely be ready! With only one chance we need this to be perfect."

"Oh okay. But I think it will be best that you play that spell before my sisters have a chance to sing again." Melody said. She heard the door open and saw her sisters walking through it.

"Melody!" Sonata said. She then ran up and hugged her.

"Sorry we missed your big performance Melody." Adagio said.

"But trying to get this one away from the taco truck is like splitting an atom. It only leads to disaster." Aria said.

Sonata then pulled a taco out of Adagio's hair. "Strange part is that the driver didn't even know why he was there." She then took a bite of her taco.

"Sonata I told you to stop storing food in my hair!" Adagio said. "It takes forever to wash it out!"

"I can't help it if your hair is a perfect hiding space!"

"Hey remember when Melody was five and she had a nightmare so she crawled into Adagio's hair." Aria said as she laughed.

Melody's face turned red. "Can we please not talk about that."

"Okay…Mel Mel." Adagio snickered as Melody gave her the death stare.

Trixie's band was then finishing up.

The crowd then applauded.

"Fantastic!" Principal Celestia said.

Trixie then walked over to the Rainbooms. "Hmph. You're never gonna top that performance, 'Rain-goons'. You shouldn't be allowed to when you have such a big advantage over the rest of us."

"My superior guitar playing and off-the-charts awesome singing voice?" Rainbow Dash said cockily.

Trixie then laughed. "Oh, don't be ridiculous. I mean her!" She pointed to Twilight. "If you were really all that, Rainbow Dash, you wouldn't have needed to bring in some magical ringer to have half a chance. Everyone's talking about it."

"Ha! Puh-leeze! I could win this thing as a solo act and everybody knows it!"

"Sure you could." Trixie then disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

Everybody coughed.

Pinkie Pie gasped. "She's gone! Oh, wait. There she is."

Trixie was then scene hiding behind a box then running off.

"Next up, the Rainbooms." Principal Celestia announced.

"Knock 'em dead, Rainbooms!" Spike said.

"I'll be here... Just... Watching." Sunset said disappointingly.

Rainbow Dash was starting to grow pony ears as she was playing her solo. Sunset just reacted and shoved Rainbow off the stage. Rainbow's ears became normal and gave her a dirty look. Principals Celestia and Luna also gave Sunset dirty looks.

Flash then got up in front of the crowd. "Now that's the bad girl we love to hate!"

The crowd then jeered in.

Sunset said "No. It isn't like that." She then walked off stage with the Rainbooms.

The Dazzlings then gave each other a 'this is perfect' look. They knew that they could use this to their advantage.

Melody cringed. There was no way her friends would advance to the finals with that performance. She put her hands over her pendant and took a deep breath.

Backstage the Rainbooms and Sunset were talking about what just happened.

"What was that?!" Rainbow Dash accused.

"You were showing them your magic. I-I didn't know what else to do." Sunset stuttered.

"Ugh. Close the curtains? Unplug her amp? Give us a chance to deal with the situation?" Rarity suggested.

"I'm sorry, I just wanted to help."

"Yeah, well, you didn't." Rainbow said harshly.

Applejack got into Rainbow's face. "None of this would've happened if you weren't tryin' to show off – as usual."

Trixie then showed up. "Good show, 'Rain-brooms'. I especially liked the part where Sunset Shimmer, in a fit of jealous rage, knocked out Rainbow Dash mid-guitar solo!"

Sunset then over stood Trixie "It wasn't a fit of jealous rage!" She yelled in her face. She then saw everyone had a nervous look.

"If you say so." Trixie then saw the judges consulting. "Ooh! Looks like they've already decided who'll be moving on to the finals! I'm guessing it wasn't too difficult a decision." She said as she looked at herself in her compact mirror.

The doors then opened. Melody walked through them and started singing. Melody's pendant then glowed as she put her hand over it. The Principals' eyes glowed green as she continued to sing, recasting her spell that she put on them before.

"Huh?" Sunset said. She was confused by what Melody was doing. She then turned her head as she heard her friends arguing.

The Dazzlings walked up behind Melody as she finished her spell. They too were confused by what Melody was doing.

"Uh Melody, what are you doing?" Adagio asked.

"Oh just making a certain band a lock to move onto the finals." She said.

"Why? What band?" Aria asked.

"Does it matter? The other band will be jealous either way." Melody said.

"True." Sonata said.

On the other side of the stage the Rainbooms were arguing.

"What can we do? There isn't gonna be another opportunity for us to play. And I had the most gorgeous outfit for the finals!" Rarity said.

"Yup, 'cause that's the real tragedy here, Rarity – that you won't get to play dress-up!" Applejack said aggressively.

"You know perfectly well that is not what I meant!" Rarity said defensively.

Rainbow Dash then got between them. "You guys wanna keep it down? They're about to announce who's moving on."

"Who are you kidding? You know it isn't gonna be us." Fluttershy stated.

Principal Celestia then got on stage. She grabbed a microphone and made her announcement. "The band that will be joining the Dazzlings and Melody Minor in tonight's finals is" Trixie then started to walk out "... The Rainbooms!"

"What?!" Trixie said both surprised and shocked, as was everyone else.

"Did they just say, 'the Rainbooms'?!" Pinkie asked.

Trixie then stormed out. "This isn't over!"

The Rainbooms then walked on stage.

"Congratulations, girls. You deserve it." Principal Celestia said.

"Seriously?! We didn't even finish our—!" Pinkie Pie was then cut off by Rainbow Dash elbowing her.

Melody walked out on stage with her sisters behind her. "See you all tonight at the big show, Rainbooms. Be sure to bring your A-game." She said.

Adagio then spoke up. "Yeah. And I can speak for all of my sisters when I say that we are truly looking forward to it." The four girls then walked away.

"Yeah, well... Not as much as we are!" Rainbow rebutted.

The crowd then jeered as the Rainbooms and Sunset left.

The Dazzlings then broke away from Melody to put the rest of their plan in motion. Then Adagio's pendant glowed and the voice she was talking to last night was speaking to her again.

"You are far too lenient with her! She could have messed up your plans!" The voice said.

"No, I'm not. Even if the Rainbooms didn't advance we could still use it to our advantage." Adagio said in her head.

"Could you? Don't you find it a bit odd that Melody just decided to have the Rainbooms advance? The answer she gave you wasn't straight! There must be a reason she made them advance."

"What reason could she have? It's not like she knows that they have magic inside them!"

"And you haven't told her why? Why have you neglected to tell her what you found? Is it because you know she's weak and would never go along with it?"

Adagio growled. "Melody is not weak! She just wants some fun! See I realized we have just been holding her back and by doing thing on her own she gets stronger! You never let us do anything by ourselves and was constantly over our heads!"

"And look what you accomplished because of it! You almost had Equestria in the palm of your hooves!"

"Don't even try taking credit for that! We were the ones who worked hard on our voices! We were the ones who actually took action! We were the ones who took revenge! All you did was terrorize and yell at us to practice more!"

"I was just waiting for the right time. Perhaps if you did what I said and took more time to practice you probably would not have been outsmarted by those six ponies!"

"JUST SHUT UP! WE COULDN'T WAIT BECAUSE WE ACTUALLY LOVED ABOUT SOLO AND M-"

"Adagio, you okay?" Sonata asked as she pulled yet another out of Adagio's hair.

Just before she turned around her pendant stopped glowing. "Oh, yeah. I'm just thinking about the finals tonight. Come on, let's give Trixie a push."

"This is a travesty! A travesty!" Trixie said dramatically.

Adagio then came and put her hand on her shoulder. "It really is! The Rainbooms don't even deserve to be in the finals. Not when your band was far better in the semis."

"And wanted it so much more." Aria cut in.

"But alas, this is the way it's going to be; Dazzlings vs. Melody vs. Rainbooms." Adagio said in a disappointing tone.

Sonata then cut in. "Unless, of course, the Rainbooms don't manage to make it to their set or if they get held up for some reason."

Aria and Adagio then gave Trixie a look. Trixie then gave a sinister chuckle at the wicked plan forming in her head.

Later the Rainbooms and Sunset Shimmer were setting up the stage for their performance.

Rainbow Dash held the microphone. "Check, one, two. Testing, testing..." She taped microphone as Sunset adjusted the acoustics "Testing...!"

There was a loud feedback. Sunset quickly readjusted the acoustics and gave a funny smile.

"This doesn't make any sense. We were awful. Doesn't anybody else think it's strange that we're the ones that made it to the finals?" Fluttershy said.

"Very strange." Trixie then appeared with her goons behind her.

"What are you doing here, Trixie? Pretty sure the losers are supposed to be up there in the cheap seats." Rainbow said.

"The Great and Powerful Trixie is the most talented girl at Canterlot High. It is I who deserves to be in the finals. And I will not..." She then snapped her fingers." ...be denied!"

One of her goons pulled a lever and a trap door opened and the Rainbooms and Sunset feel in.

Trixie gave an evil laugh. "See you never!" She said evilly as the trap door slammed shut, not noticing Spike running away.

The Dazzlings then appeared at the entrance of the stadium with smug looks on their faces.

Adagio chuckle. "See, I told you someone would give them a shove."

"But she didn't shove them. She pulled the lever." Sonata said as the other two gave her a 'really?' look while she had a stupid look on her face,

Adagio then slapped her own face in frustration.

Aria rolled her eyes. "Ugh, go back to sleep, Sonata." She said tiredly.

Later the Dazzlings and Melody were home getting ready for the finals.

"This is it my sisters! The day we have been waiting for for millennia!" Adagio said as she put on her spiked bracelets.

"Yeah! Finally we get our full powers back!" Sonata said as she tightened her tie.

"This world will now know wrath of the Sirens!" Aria said as she adjusted her corset.

"Most importantly we final get to prove a certain someone wrong!" Adagio said as she put her hand on her pendant.

Sonata gasped. "Don't tell me he has been talking to you?!" Sonata said.

Adagio looked at her and then walked over to Melody's room and knocked on the door. "Melody, are you ready?" She asked.

"Just a couple of minutes. I need to finish my hair." Melody said through the door.

Adagio then gestured Aria and Sonata to her room. Once all three of them were in there she shut the door and took a deep breath. "Okay. Yes he has been talking to me."

"Adagio!!" Sonata exclaimed.

"Look, I have just been ignoring him." Adagio said. She then looked at Aria.

Sonata noticed and gasped. "That is what you two were arguing about last night! Why did you two hide this from me?!"

Aria spoke up. "We know who you would feel. After what happened with Melody and Solo-" Aria instantly regretted what just came out of her mouth.

"Shut up!" Sonata snapped. "What happened to Solo and Melody was his fault! And me and Solo… that was literally centuries ago! The three of us agreed to never tell Melody about it, but that doesn't mean you should keep things from me as well."

"Sonata, you are our sister, but you are still the youngest and we just want to protect you." Adagio said.

"But still, keeping that he has been talking to you from me is just wrong. This affects me just as much as you!"

"Sonata, you moron. You sweet stupid moron. No matter what we will always protect you from the truth if it would hurt you, just like with Melody." Aria said.

Sonata growled. "Did you two know that Melody is friends with the Rainbooms?"

"WHAT?!" Adagio and Aria gasped.

"Yeah! Think about it. At the party when they left Melody was gone. That sleepover she was at was with those girls. She talked with them a lot backstage today. Think about it."

"No. No! NO!" Aria said horrified as she put the o so obvious clues together and she was also horrified that Sonata had figured it out first. "Sonata is…r…r…right!" Aria gauged as she said those words.

"Well, statistically it had to happen at some point in our lives." Adagio said. "But just because Melody was friends with them doesn't mean anything. She just makes friends easily."

"But still-"

"No! If Melody knew about them she would have told us. We are her sisters, her family." Adagio said.

There was a knock at the door. "I'm ready." Melody said through the door.

"Okay. Give us a minute." Adagio said. "Look, tonight is the night. We continue with the plan."

"Yeah." Aria and Sonata said.

They opened the door and found Melody at the front door. She was wearing a multi-layered frilly skirt that went just below her knees and was red that goes lighter as the layers descend. Like Aria she had on a corset only hers didn't connect to her neck and had thorny vines in the design. She had poofy sleeves that were dark red and she had black heeled shoes with a single red rose one the outside ankles and had black laces under the roses. Like Adagio she had one spiked bracelets, only hers were silver and had black roses between the spikes, giving it the appearance of a rose vine. Final her hair was in a braid along her back and had red roses in the knots and at the base was a much larger black rose and had three red laces with three different shades of red, she still kept the small braid and rose from before.

"Oh Melody! You are perfect!" Sonata said.

Melody blushed. "Come on."

"16 years. 16 years ago were found you on our front door. A baby, all alone. Now grown up and part of a family." Adagio said teared up.

"Stop it. We're going to get emotional before the finals."

"But it is true. For 16 years you have been a part of our family. You have without a doubt been the best thing to happen to us in the millennia we have been banished to this forsaken world." Aria said.

Melody teared up. "You know, I don't think I have ever properly thanked you all for what you've done for me."

"You don't have to thank us. You being our sister is enough." Adagio said as she hugged Melody, who hugged back.

Melody felt conflicted inside. What she was going to do at the Battle of the Bands, help break their spell, felt wrong inside. But not doing it also felt wrong. The choice between saving the world and her family was tearing her up inside.

"So Melody, we leaving?" Sonata said.

"Yes. Let's go." Melody said.

Well, this chapter took a long time to post, but so worth it. Now, the biggest mysteries are who is this male being that Adagio communicates with, and why does he make ther Dazzlings angry? Next, who is this Solo? Is he a Pony or a Person? Why would Sonata be especially upset by this? What is the revenge the Dazzlings mentioned? Just what secrets are the Dazzlings keeping from their sister?
