" It was started by the humans, during the age when Luna and Celestia were both children. The humans had no sympathy, no care in their hearts. They sought out to destroy as much as they could, not for gold, power, or honor, but just because they could."
You expect the audience to BUY that?! That goes against basic human civilization, basic human LAW and basic human DECENCY. That's so blatantly misanthropic and misguided and wrong.
7992329 No. I don't expect you to buy that. I expect you and the rest of my readers to have realized by now that I don't give away all the answers in the first five words. Understand that just because something is stated, even if the characters are to believe it's true, doesn't make it fact.
Even if you went the route that "I hate haters" suggested, do you not realize how problematic even that is? Because now you've basically just set up a scenario where all these species committed genocide of an entire race based solely on the manipulation of somebody else. What exactly are they supposed to do with that information, and what exactly are they going to say to the one survivor of that race? "Oops, sorry? Our bad?"
That comes across as very uncreative to me. And immensely disrespectful to thousands of years of human history, human culture, and human creativity. There were so many other, better ways you could've had your character end up in this magical land that didn't involve pointlessly slaughtering billions of people.
Well I'm sorry you see it that way. I do have the explanation planned out, as well as many other answers to questions that seem to be ignored for the better part of right now. I can't guarantee what I have planned is going to change your entire look on this story, but please know I'm not just crapping out words at random. I've had the idea for this story for the better part of two years, and just now got around to writing it.
Thank you for speaking freely about how the misanthropic route has been overdone, and seems like a blatant waste of creative writing, but I implore you and other to continue reading. If not for the sake of possibly enjoying the story later, than so that I can continue to view criticism for future projects.
Awesome. I love the introduction of frostbite. I can't wait to see what happens as the story goes on and now we know Grey's name is actually Jon.

You seriously think no other human in Equestria writer has gone the misanthrope route? That's like half of all the stories.

I bet its gonna turn out where the humans were framed by changelings who took their form to start the war.

That's sort of scenario would be zero comfort to the trillions of innocent people slaughtered. Not to mention the fact that it is still an emotionally sleazy and manipulative way of creating only one person to be put down in this magical land. It's sort of equivalent to the "girl stuffed in the refrigerator cliché." Horrific act of unspeakable proportions as backstory. That's sort of thing is very over done. It just comes across like you honestly couldn't think of any other way to get your character Into Equestria so you went the genocide route.
