If they think this is bad, wait until they win....that's going to be so much worse for all concerned.
5057311 I had a brief foray on google. And you're right: there is a passing similarity going on. I shall have to look that series up further at some point. :-)
Finally finished marathoning this. It's not as emotional provocative as Other Side of the Spectrum, but then it also doesn't have a lot of that fic's issues.
5064482 Interesting comment (in a good way :-) ). I'm curious what you mean in both instances: would it be possible for you to clarify?

If there's one thing Other Side of the Spectrum is good at, it's drawing an emotional e response out of a reader. I have read very little anything that draws as strong a response out of me that OSotS does. The latest chapter is a masterful example. Your fic is a good read, but it can't quite do that for me.
On the other hoof, OSotS has a number of flaws. The pacing needs work; we're a few hundred thousand words in and it still hasn't had the Canon!Equestrians arrive in force. The shoutouts are a tad excessive. Marcus is a borderline Gary Stu. Discord is a bit too "always right" at the beginning of the story. And the joke chapter. Oh god the joke chapter. I almost dropped it for good when that happened.
Your fic does not have those problems. Hell, I'd be hard-pressed to name a serious problem with your fic that isn't part of your "unicorn in the garden", as it were.
In movie terms, Other Side of the Spectrum is a summer blockbuster while Avatar of Albion is more a solid winter-season drama.
5065390 I can see what you mean. One of my favourite things about OSOTS is it's visceral emotional core, present in pretty much everything related to it (with a possible exception of my own contribution, mainly because I don't believe in analysing my own work for what is present, I just write it). It's part and parcel of what I love about it.
Having said that, I won't lie and say I'm unaware of the issues you bring up, because I very much am, even if I can understand why a lot of them are as they are, and don't tend to take as much issue with them as some. It does inform a lot of my story, even if only tangentially (especially in my portrayal of David Elliot, specifically with regards to his abilities and their effects).
I'm gratified that you don't consider my story to have any serious flaws - not quite sure I understand your reference to my "unicorn in the garden", though, may I ask what you mean about that?
As a final note - and I genuinely hate plugging my own stuff, makes me feel horribly up my own rectum - but may I suggest reading the Anthology? If you find the main story lacking in emotion, it's possible some of it ended up there (I might recommend "To Err Is Human", a short story my friend RoyalPsycho contributed, as being especially likely to elicit something).
All in all, thank you for a very useful critique. It's very much appreciated :-)

You're quite welcome. Like I said, I do enjoy this story.
As for the "unicorn in the garden" thing, it's kind of hard to explain, as it's a bit of a "know it when I see it" sort of situation. I'll try to dig up an exact definition.
5109648 ... You've clearly never heard of John Constantine. Suffice to say, if you had, his description would make more sense.
5109837 Pretty much. :-)
5112231 It's an interesting point, but the way I always saw it was like this.
Any pony fighting them probably doesn't - until they really, really look - realise that they're fighting Pinkie or Twilight, they just think they're fighting a pink pony or a purple pony: there must be millions of ponies, so you're not telling me that they're all entirely unique. Even cutie marks get repeated. Plus, the amount of ponies who know the Mane Six personally by sight is not gonna be proportionally large when compared to their army size. - it's kinda like passing a celebrity in the street. You'd have to double take and get a propr look at them first.
That being the case, the first reaction of any pony who sees them is gonna be "that's an enemy pony", not "oh wow, that's Twilight Sparkle". The guard who got shot got a good long look at Rainbow Dash (and the rainbow mane is fairly distinctive). Having said that, the fact that these six are running around does trickle through to Solamina eventually. I haven't written how that affects the Equestrian Propaganda machine but... well. Let's just say, it will.
Having said all that, it is a good point - there's an Anthology piece in there somewhere...
