“What are you going to do now?”
“I’ll try again next time.”

“Your performance isn’t up to scratch...”
“I... understand.”

“It happened again?”
“Next time.”

“I’m sorry, but...”
“Don’t worry, I know.”

“And again?”
“There’s always next time.”

“I regret to inform you--”
“Save it. I know.”

“Are you alright?”
“I’m fine! I’m not crying! Don’t look at me that way!”
“But--”
“I need some time to think.”
“...OK. I’m here for you if you need me.”

Okay, I'll be honest; I do NOT understand these intermezzos at all. While I still find them quite enjoyable, I just don't get them.

My best guess, which is a shot in the dark, is that this is Freeze Pop and her tryout results for the guard. Again, only my guess.

Might as well say that I'm extremely glad I finally got around to reading this. It is really a great, fun little story. Slice of life is one of best genres in my book.

This Intermezzo is indeed a look back on the several times Freeze Pop tried--and failed--to get into the Guards.
