Penalt's Reading Corner - April 24 and a Help request · 7:13pm Apr 24th, 2022

One of the things that got most of us into MLP was the lighthearted spirit of adventure that permeates the series. Yes, there is drama, and fear and even hard lessons, but there is also music, jokes and straight up fun. Combined they make the series neither too heavy dramatically nor too fluffy with no drama at all. One story that follows this rule is Farmer Bruenor Has Some Ponies by

Pandemic

A word that we have all been living with for a couple of years now. The word brings to mind masks, mandates, vaccines and a grimly rising tool of the sick and dead. Pandemics are not fun.

Unless said pandemic, instead of killing people, starts turning them into colourful ponies with strange abilities.

Slow going · 5:13pm Nov 20th, 2019

Just a quick note here that I hadn't intended on writing, but I thought I should. Work on Brightly is going slowly, but it is moving forward. I actually have wound up throwing out a few thousand words because I looked at them and realized they just weren't right. Still working, still writing, still sending out teasers to my patrons. Currently listening to some music made by a nephew of mine. Kid has some real talent...

Writing has resumed as of today.

Grandpa's body rallied, miraculously restoring kidney function and it looks like he is past the crisis. However...

There will be a delay... · 9:11pm Oct 30th, 2019

..in the publishing of the next chapter of Brightly Lit.

I found out last night that I'm going to need to take bereavement leave from work for a few days. Writing will resume as soon as possible.

Quick Poll regarding Brightly Lit · 10:15am Oct 13th, 2019

So as most of you know, I've gone into full writing mode to get Brightly Lit finished this month or near to it. My question is:

1) Would you prefer the final chapters to come out in one push, spaced no more than a day apart?
or
2) Publish them as they are ready?

Just to mention, I have the next chapter almost ready to go and could have it out in the next 12 hours if I pushed. All it needs is formatting and the final edit pass that I always do.

I did a dumb.... · 5:10am May 17th, 2019

No, not that. Not intentionally anyway.

Okay, here's the thing. When it all went to hell, one of the things that got me going again was getting regular, full-time work. I am, somewhat proud to say, a hard worker. I'm very much an equine in that regards. I was born in the Year of the Horse, as was my oldest child, as was my father, by strange coincidence. I am descended from a line of horse warriors, and in fact my last name is a bastardization of the name for them.

Update · 7:53pm Dec 22nd, 2018

I didn't feel like writing a proper blog post. Although I've been reminded it's been far too long since I wrote one. So here is my post, based on recent events of my life...

It’s a cold morning, just a few days before Hearth’s Warming Eve.  You’re not entirely sure why you’re here. The old pony you’ve come to visit is still alive and kicking, but the once unstoppable torrent of words from him has slowed to a mere trickle over the past few months.

Here we go again! · 7:10pm Jul 1st, 2018

First off, Happy Canada Day to everyone! I was late to loving my country but I really do love living here. Also, to my American friends, Happy 4th of July, early one that is :) I've yet to find a video that better describes the relationship between our two nations better than this one from the 2010 Winter Olympics..

It is Done! · 6:06am May 4th, 2018

So, things are changing a bit.

Some of you may know that waaaay back last June I ran into some serious financial trouble and that one of my patrons rode to the rescue and saved my ass.  In exchange for the ass saving I had to pay them back in words. 100,000 words to be exact. So since then I have been labouring under that lash while at the same time working to meet my other writing commitments.
