Generally, I try to avoid engaging with others in the field – these big archaeological meet-and-greets are just scholarly circle-jerks, with more hors d'oeuvres and fewer climaxes. It's actually why I chose to pursue a career in adventuring and being awesome, rather than hunker down in some musty university library and scribble out articles for a living.
I was messing around with Google Translate on Skype, with Editor Man and some other fabulous people, plugging in bits of stories and reverse-translating them to see what came out. Just now, for fun, I ran Killjoy's introductory scene through a Japanese translator and then back into English. The result is too hilarious not to share with the world.

Probably my favorite since "Canterlot Wedding." Chryssi adds a lot of character and menace to the episodes she's in, more than any other villain besides pre-reform Discord (and possibly Nightmare Moon; they're not dissimilar characters). It was nice to see her in action in more than a cameo.

This is not the goody I promised, nor is it the actual Document blog that I also promised. You guys know how it is; I like to show you shit from previous drafts to remind you that, no matter how bad things are, they could have turned out far, far worse.
Years and years ago, because I am doomed to write Horsepionage for the rest of my life, I posted a character sheet that listed the most important characters in PGS at the time of publication. I've since updated that list to add characters who've cropped up since 2012, as well as to elaborate on the preexisting cast of characters.
302, now. Which is about half as many as it would have if it were a Displaced story!

Since I'm pretty sure I won't have the next chapter done by the end of the month, I've got something else in the works to help tide you over, and to maintain my current pattern of having an update every month.
Unfortunately, I'm losing a day of writing. My computer's running a full virus scan that'll probably run through the rest of the day and a good portion of the night. I'm typing this on mobile.
But I do have something coming. Dicks out, etc.
You are writing an MLP story. You want to use the word "anthropologist." However, the etymological root for the word, "anthro," is not applicable to a society of horse people. The story is not about Lyra because you're not a moron.
Do you:
A. Attempt to finagle a different word with a different root that's more appropriate to the setting
B. Use the word anyway and ignore any potential complications
C. Quit writing forever and become a plumber
People who've kept up with PGS will know that the most recent chapters have dealt with an excursion to find and rescue Rainbow Dash after her presumed death in the Castle of the Two Sisters. You may also be aware of a very curious conundrum that's plagued the story ever since the chapter with that scene was published.

I got some good news and some bad news for you. Magnanimous fellow that I am, I'll give you the good news first.
Last night, I completed the rough draft for the next chapter of the Solid Snake and Twilight Sparkle Show! Ready for the bad news? I only finished it because I once again decided to split the chapter in two.
Twilight stared at him in bemusement. "That's absolutely ridiculous. Everypony knows that zombies are created by voodoo witch doctors channeling fell spirits into the corpses of the recently deceased via mystic song and dance."
Rainbow Dash should have known this. The whole plot to 28 Pranks Later falls apart when you consider this fact.
After struggling to sit down and focus on my writing for the better part of the last half-month, I put myself on a schedule and started setting deadlines by which to finish projects. Each day, I'm going to set aside nine hours (fewer, once I find myself again gainfully employed, but until then my financial losses are your literary gains) to write horse-words, for PGS, for Murphy's Law, for yet unnamed projects, some of which may or may not be follow-ups to my award-winning
Last night, for the first time in about two months, I went the whole day without writing anything. And I feel really bad about that, so by way of an apology, have this preview from the rough draft of the next chapter. Nothing spoilery (certainly nothing involving dokis or cherries), just a little bit of dialogue. It's my way of trying to make sense of the screwey non product placement firearms in MGSV.
