So there is a very long story to this and it has cost me 10K$ over the last several months. But here it is, as promised; volume 1 complete, working on volume 2 now.

Now I just have to work with Amazon and Barnes&Noble to finish getting it in stores.

Original Word Count of Chapters 1-20: 195K
Words Removed: 48K
Total Word Count afterward: 217K
YES! We took out 48,000 words and still ended up being 22,000 longer than the original draft.

I've read both this thread and the one you posted in Shameless Self-Promotion, which details what you went through to make all of this happen.

And the one question on my mind remains: why?

Why pay ten thousand dollars just to publish a fanfic? Why go through all that effort? Why not just self-publish or do a limited print run as so many others have? I honestly want to know.

The work you put out looks outstanding. I will have to pick up a copy myself in the near future. Congratulations on getting it published.
