I’m eventually seeking people who’re more military minded than myself to consult in battle scenes in a Star Wars/MLP crossover I’m trying to jump back into making.

For context the idea is the tech has gotten into Equestria and it’s going to be basically a huge transitional period from swords and such to blasters, tanks, etc.

A few other things: planes exist but they’re mostly for stunt pilots like the Wonderbolts, firearms or at least prototypes exist but they’re highly restricted to military personnel in Equestria despite other nations trying to create them as well.

So some help especially for the first story in this transition would really help in developing tactics that make use of the strengths of these new weapons while still creating exciting drama without having to fall into Hollywood Tactics territory.

As a star wars superfan and a guy with some general military knowledge I think I can help. What are you looking for exactly?

Not into Star Wars but I got info on military stuff and tactics and all that! Feel free to DM!

Tactics that show how outdated Equestria’s military is when the insurgencies first happen to the transition of the first major battle that will trigger a Great War and so on

Considering what we have seen from what you have said and the show has shown the most common tactics in equestria would be Pike and Shot the always ever present spear wall when gun couldn't be involved as well as shock Calvary similar to the winged hussars using long lances and quick maneuver fighting.

"Traditional" Equestrian fighting is liable to revolve around the spear and lance. Attached to one side of the barrel, such weapons can rotate up when not needed and only require one limb to poke the enemy with. Chargers, or what we would call shock cavalry, would have a lance similarly mounted but without the capability to slide, so the wielder can focus on making maximum speed. Ranged troops are liable to be crossbows, both for the power and to account for body type.

Other than that, the most common armor is gambeson (many layers of tightly quilted cloth), brigandine (armor plates anchored to cloth instead of self supporting like plate), and plate-mail. With whatever magical augmentation you feel is fitting.

Based on the Woderbolts Academy episode, IMO traditional pegasus battle tactics are
1) Gather as many clouds as possible for concealment, cover, & lightning artillery. (Of course, ponies do not appear to have radar. Do Bat Ponies have sonar?)
2) Generate tornadoes & aim them at the enemy. Modern amies train to fight with air support. Metal vehicles do not do well if hit by lightning. Mud will slow down any army on Earth.

Modern AA fire will come as a shock.

Helium filled dirigibles were used by the US Army during WW2 (convoy escorts). The Germans only ever managed to
shoot down 1 of them. They were in use until 1962.

From the Bronze Age onward nonmechanized armies on good off road terrain travel about 20 miles a day.

Pegasi can put supplies on clouds & push them about 25 mph (based on average bird flight speed). In other words, they can move in an hour what it takes ground pounders all day to do. Assuming they can swap out cloudpushers, in one 12 hour day they can go 300 miles. That's 2 weeks travel + they are ready to fight the entire time. They don't have to stop, unload vehicles & prepare to fight.

Not to rain on your parade, but would this story be set in the EaW AU? If not, then this technically isn't the group for that discussion. Thankfully there's plenty others if you need opinions, including Pony Warfare and Ponies of War.

If your story is meant to be EaW-based, then no issue. Just figured I should mention it though.

Well seeing as how all nine stories will be basically around war and borrowing heavily from Star Wars and the clone wars and such then yes.

Equestria at War isn't just "Equestria is at War/War in Equestria", it's an entire alternate universe with a changed landscape and society to how MLP is traditionally shown in the show. Unsure whether you are aware or not.

Refer to our links on the group homepage to learn more.

Oh well in that case no it’s not in one of those I misread and frankly wasn’t aware this was a group dedicated to an alternate timeline deal
