You have any Perks you are willing to share with the circle?

7538760
I'm willing to share all of the perks I have so far (even traits, if you want) but please keep in mind that I've built this system almost from the ground up, so some things may not make a lot of sense without context or may even clash with the rest of what you have here (in reference to the whole "Try and keep up with some general flow of ideas.")

Hell, I might as well just post the entire book so far but I'd do so in my own thread as to not steal the spotlight.

7538761
This thread is solely dedicated towards sharing creative Perk Ideas, I was just providing a handful of what I had cooked up for my own upcoming story. Even without the context of what it is about, one could easily tell what the main character involved in my created Perk List is before arriving in the Wasteland with the few tidbits and hints alluded to in the Perk dialogue.

The general anatomy for a Perk should include the following:

"Perk Name" (Rank # if it can be upgraded) -- Serious/Humorous Quotation from or hinting the Perk. Statistics of what the Perk entails. Possible Unlock Requirements for the Perk.

The story I'm at work on even offers some mild explanation to why certain Magazines would offer up unique certain Perks to it.

One of the specific Magazines the Protagonist finds is a Power Ponies Comic Book (#312 Humdrum and Fili-Second vs. The Rampaging Robotron!) that has two pages dedicated to a cut-away diagram of an in-universe Sentinel Robot (The FO:E-equivalent of a Fallout-Series Sentry Bot) that the comic book villain is talking about, and shows exactly how the superhero goes about defeating it in the issue. The Protagonist reading the magazine theorized the possibility that the Comic Book Industry was being used as an underground information rail by Zebras and Sympathizers to safely leak information to them on how to beat Equestria. The protagonist takes the comic for herself and uses it to her advantage: gaining a Perk that would allow her to easily damage Robots easier by shooting them in the legs to cripple them; exploiting the same weakness discovered by Fili-Second in the comic book.

Trail By Fire

Don't you mean "[Trial] By Fire"?

I don't use perk lists. In the one story where I did this stuff, the perks were just an added joke at the end of the chapter.

Note that the main character in my story is a ghoul, so some (okay, a lot) of the perks specifically refer to that.

  • New perk: Boring Guy: Somehow, you just don't seem to meet any of those dangers the Wastelands are so famous for. You have a -15% chance on random encounters. Less stuff out to kill you obviously also means less corpses to loot, though.
  • New Perk: Foal at Heart: Wait, you don't scare the crap out of little children? How the hell did that happen?
  • New Perk: Wasteland Detective (level 2): Long-forgotten mysteries don't stay forgotten much longer when you are around. Of course, simply remembering things might be considered cheating.
  • New Perk: Tempered By Fire: You are now more resistant to fire damage. And thank Celestia for that; radiation or no radiation, ghoul skin isn't exactly known for its regenerative ability.
  • New Perk: Respect my Authoritah: Your old-world rank and reputation seem universally accepted despite being two centuries old.

7538780
No, I literally mean "Trail by Fire": the main character is trapped in a crash site with a psychopathic commanding officer and a group of Dragons all trying to kill her. The whole area filled with debris and hazards its like a maze she has to go through in order to escape and survive.

7538856
Huh, okay. I'm just not sure if it woks as pun if that isn't clear. Perks written for specific story situations often don't make much sense outside that.

7539038
it's not written just for a story situation, it's because of the story situation and has beneficial attributes to it that would be needed for it such as the aforementioned "Movement Speed on the ground while in combat increased by +5%". Because our Protagonist in this story is a Pegasus she would be naturally-adept at aerial combat, but down here beneath the clouds and facing off against several Dragons at the same time that all are out for Pegasus Blood, she is now forced to flee and hide from her attackers on the ground instead of heading into the air where she would be a highly-visible moving target, a plot point that would serve to reflect the nature of how complacent most of the Grand Pegasus Enclave has become in being dependent on their technology to solve everything that they would have problems with their Pro-Isolationism stance. Just what would happen if that technological advantage is removed from the equation, remove their Power Armor and their "Dragon-Killer" Raptor-Class Cloudships and what are the Pegasi left with on their own to fight against the Dragons with on their own? Nothing.

Because knowing it would invariably attract the attention of the Dragons that are hounding them. The Protagonist and her Pegasus allies would have to grapple with their Pegasus instincts to resist flying above the skyline and resort to fighting in an Urban Environment and in hiding from their enemies without heading into the skies so often in the first half of the story, a realistic and constant usage required of the Trail by Fire Perk I had created.

I mean perks in the Fallout games are a fixed list. Your perk, like most of mine, only occur as a direct result of things that happened in the story :ajsmug:

This also means they're not very useful to share in a public "perks list", since those situations are probably never going to happen to anyone else in their own stories.

7539134
Nobody is going to wind up getting the same Perks in each gameplay. and that's not taking into account the events of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas having Perks that would have had very little leeway to have been added into the list of obtainable Perks originally envisioned by Vault-Tec. I mean, Did Vault-Tec actually plan for their Vault Dwellers somehow managing to: get abducted by Aliens, turning themselves Vampires, or having their brain removed and replaced with mechanical parts all in Vault Experiments that shouldn't even be physically possible?

This also means they're not useful to share in a "perks list" since those situations are probably never going to happen to anyone else in their own stories.

That might be, but then again that hasn't stopped the Fanfic writers from getting creative with what sort of Perks could be possible for their characters to get. Blackjack got a Radiation-Based Perk that causes her eyes to glow-in-the-dark, Puppy Smiles got a Perk that allowed her to start leveling up, a Cyborg had to spend several chapters to analyze a Perk they just got. If anything, the Perk System in the FO:E stories is indeed based around the actions, interactions, and experiences of the Protagonists. I just wanted to share some examples for aspiring writers on what style the Perk System operates under with others offering up their own in-turn.

That might be, but then again that hasn't stopped the Fanfic writers from getting creative with what sort of Perks could be possible for their characters to get.

Oh? I thought the whole purpose of this topic was to offer a shortcut for all that and just dump a bunch of perks for authors to use...

7539158
Nah, just examples and writing tips and tricks to getting out what sorts of Perks you can throw in for your aspiring Fallout piece. And a way for others to share what they've learnt in making Perks.
