I like writing about the worst day of a character's life; it lets us see the mettle inside. (Pronouns: RB/20 )

    Some books I love

    I haven't produced much content lately. Just not feeling "pony." Been working on some space opera I might post to Royal Road or Amazon or something someday.

    In light of my recent lack of content, have some of my favorite books:

    Romeblox

    Me: What did you learn in school today?

    Kid: We learned about "SPQR" in ancient Rome.

    Me: Romanes eunt domes!

    Wife: What?

    Me: Don't worry about it.

    Always worth a re-read

    I just re-read, for the sixth or eighth time, one of my all time favorite books:
    Neptune's Inferno: The U.S. Navy at Guadalcanal, James D. Hornfischer

No way to make this 1000 words, and script format is banned, anyway, so this is a blog. With apologies to The Bard.

Act IV, Scene 1
A cavern. In the middle, a boiling cauldron.

Moon Dancer. Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.

Dinky. Thrice and once the puck-wudge whined.

Zecora. Siren cries, "'Tis time, 'tis time."

Moon Dancer. Round about the cauldron go;
In the poisoned entrails throw.
Toad, that under cold stone
Days and nights has thirty-one
Sweltered venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first in the charmed pot.

All. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

Dinky. Filet of Everfree snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and hoof's frog,
Fruit of bat and tongue of dog,
Basilisk fork and flash-bee's sting,
Hydra's paw and pegasus wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

All. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Zecora. Scale of dragon, timber of wolf,
Sphinx's mummy, paw and tuft,
Fin of toothy salt-sea shark,
Poison joke digged in the dark,
Liver of hated Caribou,
Gall of goat, and fresh-made glue,
Silvered in our Moon's eclipse,
Nose of deer and donkey's lips,
Horn of birth-strangled foal
Ditch-delivered by the prole,
Make the gruel thick and cruel:
Add blood-stained soldier's pauldron,
For the ingredients of our cauldron.

All. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Dinky. Cool it with buffalo's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

[Enter PRINCESS LUNA to the other three Witches]

Princess Luna. O well done! I commend your pains;
And every one shall share in the gains;
And now about the cauldron sing,
Like phoenix and breezie in a ring,
Enchanting all that you put in.

[Music and a song: 'Black spirits,' &c]

[PRINCESS LUNA retires]

Dinky. By the pricking of my ears,
Something wicked this way nears.
Open, locks,
Whoever knocks!

[Enter COZY GLOW]

The rhythm's shaky in places, but I do love a good riff on Macbeth. And the idea that Spear Shaker, royal sycophant that he was, might have included Luna as she was in his plays... though critically misunderstanding who she was compared to the Nightmare.

Cozy shall never vanquished be, until great Whitetail Wood to high Canter Hill shall come against her.

It's worth mentioning that Hecate was believed to have been added by an actor bursting in out of nowhere and everyone else trying to make it look like part of the play.

*uncontrollable giggling*
