Lets try a competition... · 5:05pm Aug 23rd, 2022
While I've been working on little bits here and there unrelated to Mind Over Midnight, I've been having difficulties. Nothing really sticks, well nothing that isn't a big long epic in my head and right now I want little palate cleansers.
So colour me shocked when I saw 'The Sunset Shimmer x EG/MLP villains shippers group' latest competition appear on my feed. I've been wanting to enter a competition for a little while now. I don't honestly think I'll win, but it's a good motivator and idea generator. especially with the tag 'Bad Romance'.
Now I decided to be somewhat experimental in Fairytale Romance, the initial parallel story is written in a much simpler style, attempting to ape actual fairy stories. It was heavily inspired by a series of YouTube videos about Hungarian fairytales my partner listens to. They're rather distinct and stick around in your head I find. The usage of Razer (the red dragon from Season 1 of Friendship is Magic, yes that's his name) was i'll admit a tad crack-y, but also an attempt to try and air the rather negative portrayals we have with most dragons in the series. Spike is a special case remember?
Its canonicity to Mind Over Midnight was more of a last-minute choice. There's nothing in either that particularly clashes and chronologically I'd suggest it takes place a few weeks before Midnights first 'manifestation', but if you feel it's a bit too dark then, by all means, ignore it. Whilst I can't promise anything, I highly doubt it would be referenced in Mind Over Midnight.
