The original is sang by women, btw. Maybe that’ll fit better for Chrysalis. There’s also a remix made by the creators themselves.

It’s called Tough Love by PattyCake. There’s a whole album surrounding the premise of (I think) right songs. Tough Love and What Goes Around Comes Around are complete and utter bops.

The original (Tough Love) actually has some cool visuals, as the actresses who play Mother Gothel and the Ugly Step Sisters (particularly Anastasia, the person who plays her is bucking incredible and I stan) REALLY play into their role(s).

Fun fact, actually: This song (the original) is what inspires me for the ‘Changeling Coven’ in A King’s Brood. It’s a good song. Dark, depressing, desolate (wink, wink; nudge, nudge), and empowering. I love it.

And good luck on the animatic! I have a friend who says animatics/storyboards are difficult to make.

I actually knew about the original. I decided to share this animatic mostly because it’s short and to the point while also fitting the scenario (you can imagine characters such as Chrysalis and Thorax in it). Plus, it’s a good cover of the song.

I myself have no experience with animatics yet, but it may be something I’d like to take on in the future.

Then I assume you’ve listened to the original? Imo, each villain could represent an aspect of Chrysalis, but that’s just my interpretation:

Lady Tremaine - Canterlot Invasion, mostly her control over Shining Armor (with the Step Sisters being a pair of unreformed Changeling guard, or the unreformed Hive), Thorax, and maybe the relentless fanon/headcanon seen almost everywhere about Chrysalis’ mother (Daughter of Discord with Queen Arachne and like 20% of other Chrysalis fics are good examples)
Mother Gothel - Raising/Rearing/Looking after the Hive (whatever she did). Also “they’re so cute when they’re little” made me think of the larvae shown in one of Thorax’s flashbacks, and Chrysalis picking one of them up
The Evil Queen - Chrysalis’ scheming, and her Equestria Invasion in S6, and ofc Thorax
Thorax is literally every Disney princess ever. Proven fact.

But again, that’s just my interpretation.

What Goes Around (song 1; ep1) and Being Bad Never Looked So Good (song 3; ep4) also both kinda remind me of the Legion of Doom / Villainous Trio in S9, if you haven’t heard them before and are interested.

It’s a good collection of songs, actually.

Apart from the Sidekick song. We don’t talk about the Sidekick song.

I’d mostly focus on the Tremaine bit, since that’s what this animatic’s doing here. Not sure if I’d be able to fully cover the entire song, but if I were to do that anyway, I’ll keep that info in mind.

Fr tho, and I know I probably sound like a broken record saying this, but Husk from Hazbin Hotel sounds eerily similar to Pharynx (despite Pinkie being Niffty’s voice claim/inspo on the casting vid Vivzie put out years ago, I don’t think Pharynx was created early enough to be Husk’s claim, and instead Rick Sanchez was), which I use to my advantage when writing any lines for him, even if the characterisation isn’t like a thousand percent, although it’s still real close, but because of this, Husk’s va Mick Lauer singing gives me a pretty good idea.

Ngl just like the addict mv husk’s song slams. there’s also a YouTuber/music artist called PARANOiD DJ (he’s on Spotify too) who does fansongs and impersonations for the franchise(s), and his Husk impressions are also fairly good (Smile Like You Mean It and We’re Sure To Drown being the only examples I’ve found). They’re not as on the nose as Mick Lauer (who—slight info dump here—played the Detective in Who Killed Markiplier), and in WSTD you can kinda tell he struggles to keep the low tone, but eh. Still good, regardless.
