MLP G4 Ships I Like · 3:06am Jul 1st, 2022
Greetings, everypony! As a kind of follow-up to my last blogpost "MLP G4 Ships I Don't Like", I decided to go ahead and make a list of the ships that I actually do like. Ready? Al-right-ty then!
Twibra (Twilight SparklexKing Sombra): Starting off strong, amiright? Some of you might be wondering, "Why do you like this one?" Excellent question! Well, as I so eloquently put in my previous blogpost, I find both Flash Sentry and Timber Spruce to be boring, generic nice guys. They're what I like to call "playing it safe love interests". They're the guys that were placed there to be the right options for our protagonists (be it Twilight and Flash, Sunset and Flash or Twilight and Timber).
King Sombra, on the other hand, is a quite different story altogether. I've always found it interesting when a protagonist and an antagonist display a romantic interest in the other, whether it be Batman and Catwoman in Batman: The Animated Series, Silverbolt and Blackarachia from Beast Wars, Gwen and Kevin in Ben 10: Alien Force, or Rogue and Gambit from X-Men: Evolution. This opens the flood-gates for so many storytelling opportunities than if you just went with "nice and sweet love interest #347". A villainous or otherwise mal-aligned love interest can offer the hero an alternative viewpoint, challenging them to open their mind to the world around them and get them to see that things aren't always as easy as "good" and evil", that sometimes, you have to do things you don't like in order to get results.
In the show, Sombra is displayed as being an insanely powerful magic user so he and Twilight have that in common. He's a gifted strategist and Twilight is more than capable in figuring her way out of sticky situations. Given that he's so powerful, he's had to read a lot of books in order to get where he is and we all know Twilight's weakness for the written word. Sombra could teach Twilight more about magic whereas Twilight can teach him about love and friendship so it's a win-win. Plus, I don't know, they just look good together, in my own opinion:

Appledash (ApplejackxRainbow Dash): Yeah, I know it's an obvious ship that just about everyone does and it's the first one to come to mind but I really love this one. Come on, admit it, they look really cute together! They're both tough, stubborn mares with a strong competitive streak and they just love to go head-to-head against each other. I really think that they are an excellent match.
Marblemac (Marble PiexBig Mac): I kind of already went a little into detail with this in my last blog so I'll just say that I find this ship adorable.
Docterpy (Time Turner aka Doctor WhoovesxDerpy): In "Slice of Life", we see a bit more of Time Turner and Derpy and their oddball friendship. One is a klutz with a depth perception issue, the other a possibly centuries old (?) crackpot inventor. I like the idea of these two oddball misfits finding solace with one another. It's funny that with how straight-laced and organized someone like Time Turner is, he doesn't seem to mind the fact that Derpy just starts fiddling with his equipment given her poor track record. That indicates a level of trust he has with her and, perhaps, just something a little bit more...
Speetie Belle (SpikexSweetie Belle): Originally, I liked Sparity (SpikexRarity) and while I do enjoy the ship on some level, I've had some time to really think on it. Aside from the fact that Rarity has often thoughtlessly used Spike's crush on her to her benefit, she just doesn't seem to be interested in him on a romantic level. The Main Six's ages have never been confirmed but I imagine them to at least in the mid to late 20's range, considering that Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Twilight, and Rarity all lived by themselves and Rarity ran her own business. If Twilight hatched Spike when she was ten to twelve, then he'd have to be a young teenager by the start of the series so there's a bit of an age gap there. I know some people will argue that age shouldn't be a factor or the fact that Rarity isn't into him now but that her feelings could change later on.
Even then, I think it'd be much healthier for Spike to be with someone closer to his own age, someone that could like him sooner and really make him happy. Someone like Sweetie Belle, perhaps? She's also a white-coated unicorn that is skilled in clothes-making and singing. I'm not suggesting that she'd be a replacement for Rarity but rather, encapsulates what Spike likes about her while also being distinctly different.
Disluna (DiscordxPrincess Luna): Here's another odd one from me. I know people prefer to ship Princess Celestia with Discord but I prefer the idea of Discord and Luna having a romance, maybe even one in the past as well. Both are outcasts, one a chimeric and misunderstood chaos-maker, while the other the Princess of the Night and a mare that had to live in her big sister's shadow. I can really see them bonding over chaos and night and Luna's uptight and more rigid attitude goes along perfectly with Discord's lighthearted spontaneity.
Starburst (StarlightxSunburst): Again, an obvious ship given how close the two are in the show but I think they're adorable. If you prefer StarlightxTrixie, then that's fine too.
Capplaeno (CapperxCelaeno): Am I alone in thinking this one just works? I mean, a cat-thief and a parrot-pirate? Just imagine the kind of trouble they could get into together!
Thorember (ThoraxxEmber): Cheerful, outgoing changeling-king and tough-as-nails tsundere dragon-lord. Need I say more?
Gallusstream (GallusxSilverstream): This is just another one where I think they'd make for a cute couple. Gallus is the seemingly above-it-all bad boy and Silverstream the excitable, wide-eyed manic pixie dream hippogriff. They really could help one another, with Gallus keeping Silverstream grounded and Silverstream giving Gallus the love and attention he's been craving for years.
Pinkie Pie x Anyone Other Than Cheese Sandwich: Name says it all. Seriously, it's weird that not only is Pinkie the only Main Six member to be in a canonical relationship but it's basically with a male version of herself. I wonder what the writers were on when they came to this conclusion.
Maud Pie x Anyone Other Than Mud Briar: Second verse, same as the first. Another Pie sister, another male clone hubbie. So weird.
You forgot other relationships too!
Personally, I absolutely hate AppleDash. Not only is it among the many that goes against the show's themes and morals about friendship, but the relationship as a whole is incredibly toxic. They're obviously really great friends, but when it comes to a romantic relationship...the problem is that all they've frequently done in the past was compete and endanger each other. Heck, whenever they try to outdo one another, they'd hardly be concerned about each other. At times, there'd even be a sense of distrust between them when it comes to things outside of competition.

That's fair. I HATE "Non-Compete Clause" because their bickering put the students at risk but I chalk that more up to the writers making them that way.

Ya know... as of lately.... I have started to prefer that shipping over Sugarmac. ^^
Mainly because of in part with Marble Pie being My Favorite Pie Sister. X3

Eh.... I'm not that big on that shipping between the two for obvious reasons from me. ^^'
