Random lore fact #1: How foreign marriages work with changelings in my universe ✨ · 4:37am Jun 15th, 2022
Ok so basically I was thinking that I could drop some pieces of my universe’s lore every so often because I think that’ll be interesting. Plus I’d like to discuss and hear y’all’s thoughts on them
- Once again, they have a matriarchal society where the females are at the top of the ladder while males are at the bottom so this in itself creates an obvious power imbalance.
- This is why female-female marriages are legal between changelings since they see it as two equal partners with equal amount of power.
- Male-male changelings marriages are forbidden since in their minds, why would we put a male in a role where they can’t be dominated?
- Obviously these strict beliefs are very problematic and I very much don’t agree with them but it’s part of their society and the way traditional changelings think.
- Now this is where it gets a bit complicated with foreign marriages whenever they want to secure a proper alliance or make peace with an enemy/neutral opponent.
- Whenever it’s a foreign male they need to send a changelings to marry no matter what, they will send a male instead of a female.
- They do this in order to keep that power imbalance in check: in other cultures males are on top which very much goes against their beliefs so, they fix that by giving that foreign male a “submissive” male partner in order to properly balance it.
- Plus the fact that male changelings are capable of giving birth gives it an extra bonus.
- When it comes to having to marry off a changelings to a female foreigner they instead send a female changeling since as mentioned earlier, they know other cultures have males on top.
- They want to keep female changelings with power so they make sure to marry a female to a female foreigner to keep that power imbalance in check.
- Over all their society very much wants to keep that power imbalance no matter what in order to keep those at the bottom where they “belong”.
- Thus why when male changelings are sent off to marry foreigners they often break away from the societal norms that were placed upon them (such as cutting their hair and dressing up much more comfortably with natural looks instead of overly grand and caked with makeup) and actually try to enjoy their lives away from where they started.
- Also another quick random fact there have been changelings hybrids mixed with different species (such as ponies, dragons, zebras, and possibly even yaks a few times) but unless it was conceived from an alliance, they’ll absolutely shame and hide that young hybrid from the public eye.
I might explain the racism that can be found in this society (obviously not every changelings thinks this way, in the modern day it’s just the loud minority and mostly elders) in my next fact and the origins of it with them
Ooh, interesting lore!
Oh damn, that’s a double standard. I certainly feel for the gay male changelings.

I imagine eloping would be popular with them, it’d definitely be a “historians say they were very close friends” type of thing when their historical male figures were clearly in a relationship
