Thoughts on the episodes Princess Twilight Sparkle parts 1 and 2 · 4:45am May 24th, 2022
So, after the disappointing episode that was the season three ending, I have to say the season four opener makes up for that and is my favorite opening to a season of MLP FIM. This episode brings so much to the table with us being able to see the past where Celestia and Luna fought each other and how they defeated Discord, to the Tree of Harmony being revealed. There was a lot to unpack just from that alone; then we see the friendship of the mane six tested as Twilight's friends make a point seeing that they were trying to protect her just in case the other princesses were gone. Then they relinquished their elements to save the princesses, and they learned to trust each other more in their friendship than in the elements of harmony. Also, it's apparent Discord was being set up to become a bigger threat seeing he planted those seeds and probably was influencing them in the background. I think critically; you can say the two episodes were a mess, with Twilight literally going back and forth from finding the tree of harmony. But overall, it was good to see Twilight experiencing a crisis of faith in herself and the episode making Discord a much more cunning villain than before. I also loved seeing Twilight having to look back in time which was without a doubt the reason why I love this episode so much. It was heartwrenching to see Celestia almost die in this episode without at first knowing it was in the past. I loved how it shows that Twilight and Princess Celestia have a powerful bond with each other, and I always struggle with this episode seeing Celestia almost die like that. I would be crying alongside Twilight if I saw that with her. So again, this isn't a review, and I'm not a critic. I love this opener for Twilight's glimpse into the past mostly, and that's about it.
Random thoughts
The Royal guards are so useless that they don't notice tendrils of evil enchanted vines kidnapping the princesses. They literally have to be told what to do by Twilight; it's why I love messing with them in my stories, lol.
Discord in that maid uniform gave me the idea for the story "The Maid of Chaos," which was fun to write.
Fluttershy is the best in this episode seeing her not only giving Discord a chance but threatening him in the end. Some would say she's naive with her friendship with Discord. But she's the reason why he's "reformed" and isn't causing too much chaos. Overall she as a character came a long way from season one.
