Part 2 of 2: Twilight-Zephyr blog · 11:19pm Mar 7th, 2022
Hey all,
Double uploads for the win! I mentioned in part 1 how I had to take time away from this story in order to write the scripture that Zephyr found. Looking back on it, I actually used a lot less of Ascension in this story than I had anticipated. I thought I was going to have Twilight and Zephyr flinging verses back and forth at each other, but that didn't seem quite right once I started writing the confrontation. I am glad to have taken the break to write Ascension, though; it really let me step back from this story and realize what sort of motivations the Zephyrites had!
I actually based some of what I wrote here on comments I received regarding Arrival. (Comments are always appreciated!) PresentPerfect's review showed me that Zephyr was seen as crazy and racist, and I wanted to explore her backstory a bit more. And with folks like Sunset-Shimmer and daOtterGuy leaving positive feedback, I knew I had to return to the Zephyrite universe!
The Epilogue was in some ways something I wasn't really comfortable writing. I remember thinking, way back when I started my first fic, how hard it would be to write a believable Discord. But my hand was sort-of-not-really forced when I heard rumors of the ponies of Gen 5 visiting Canterlot. Obviously, having this story placed in a different continent precludes a Canterlot visit. But by having Discord pulling the strings behind the events of this trilogy, it'll be a lot easier to fit this universe I've created into whatever direction Gen 5 goes. Don't ask me why I'm so determined to keep this as "canon" to the upcoming show. I guess I really just want it to serve as a true bridge between generations, no matter where the new generation ends up.
I'm not sure where I'm going to go from here. I do still have Mothership Eta to work on, but honestly a short break from writing sounds like fun. I know I want to re-read all of Phoenix_Dragon's stories (there's another shameless plug) but after that? I guess we'll just see when inspiration strikes!
See you all then!
