Technology prevails- Dark Skyes is now a reality (kind of)

So you may have remembered this from 8 years ago. A kickstarter where several bronies were scammed out of their chance to play this… very odd dating game with some bizarre characters.

But no more I say! I will let this injustice continue no longer! We have the technology. We can make Dark Skyes ourselves!

Broad Daylight Appendix C: A Glossary of Robitcs

Emotional setpoint theory: A model of the workings of pony emotions first posited in the 13th century by Lovelace, one of the first mad scientist, during a period where robots were still hypothetical. This model posits that ponies have exactly five discreet emotions (Aggression, Love, Fear, Apathy and Sadness). Any other emotions exist as a setpoint between

    TA Skeleton in the Closet
Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon throw the most literal Nightmare Night party possible.

That's right! It's Silver Spoon vs. Freddy Krueger more or less, turning that one line about dream demons into a 30K word halloween adventure. This is basically my take on a seventh Nightmare on Elmstreet movie but with ponies!

    1,000 upvote special is go.

Looks like I made it to 1000 upvotes, at last proving myself not to be completely worthless.

I know what you’re all saying “that’s not remotely impressive. Shut up!”

But ah! If you limit it to just fanfics published this decade then uh…

Broad Daylight: The Allgood Group, Toxco, Curse Tech · 7:04am Feb 13th, 2022

The Allgood Group
Leader: Snap Allgood
Valuation: 600 billion bits

The Allgood Group was founded in the year 1111, making it Equestria’s oldest corporation and still one of the largest.
Until being surpassed by Curse Tech, it was largely seen as the innovative tech giant of Equestria. It was the Allgood Group that innovated telephones, film, electric lighting, and trains among much more.
In the year 1341, Minuette cursed a large group of scientists and engineers at a conference, making them unable to continue with their work. Share prices of Allgood plummeted by 60%, sending Equestria into a recession.
Minuette continued to target a number of their more recent inventions, including the combustion engine, rendering several of their major investments worthless.
Another major blow to The Allgood Group came with the game Summoner Knights. Originally intended to display and normalize their new illusion projection scrolls, the game skyrocketed in popularity before being declared ‘cringe’ and crashing spectacularly. The game was so universally panned by hipsters in the end that illusion projection scrolls themselves still induce cringing to this very day.
Share prices of Allgood have still not recovered to their all-time high, but they do pay a nice 5% dividend so there’s that. Investor confidence is also helped by Allgood’s strong connection to Equestria’s government. They alone remain the only corporation with access to the Area 5X laboratories. Who can say what secrets they have access to?
Plus, if Minuette is ever defeated their stock prices are likely to go through the roof!
Overall analyst sentiment:
40% buy
60% hold

Toxco
Leader: Spatial Tear
Headquarters: Old Manehattan
Valuation: 0 bits (peaked at 800 billion. Hope you sold at the top!)

The lineage of the witches who owned the seventh Book of Shadows has always feared the ever-rising power of outsiders.
Born during the industrial revolution, Spatial Tear decided to take a different approach to her predecessors and use industry against Equestria. To this end, she founded the Toxco corporation in Manehattan.
Toxco’s primary invention, made with Spatial Tear’s help, was the super-reactor. These reactors produced enormous amounts of energy at near-zero cost. Just four super-reactors were enough to provide all of Equestria with near limitless energy, charging virtually nothing. This led to a period of incredible economic prosperity.
However, this came with a steep cost. Super-reactors, by design, produced enormous amounts of pollution. The areas around the old super-reactors are uninhabitable and the oceans remain devoid of life for miles away from them. Even the northern half of Manehattan (now known as Old Manehattan) remains uninhabitable.
The portions of the super-radiation produced created dangerous mutant monsters, many of which are still on the loose today, and the increased ambient radiation levels of the planet have yet to subside.
Thankfully, the most dangerous effects of super-reactors were averted. The ultimate goal of the super-reactors was to slowly alter the oceans until a phase shift occurred and deadly amounts of methane got released all at once, devastating civilization to a point it may never recover from.
Equestria eventually learned of this threat and immediately shut down the super-reactors. However, as an independent nation, the colossal super-reactor in Manehattan remained operational. This one super-reactor alone would be enough to eventually cause the deadly methane release, given enough time, and the rulers of Manehattan were in no hurry to shut it down and give up the wealth it generated.
Eventually, President Flash Blade of Equestria declared war on Manehattan with the express goal of destroying the colossal super-reactor. During the war, the super-reactor suffered a partial meltdown and the ensuing radiation killed Spatial Tear, among many others. Equestria would ultimately win the war and annex Manehattan to ensure the same would never happen again.
Unfortunately, the seventh volume of the Book of Shadows was never recovered. Spatial Tear’s student, Warp, attempted another similar plan using hairspray to destroy the ozone layer but it never really caught on. Equestria simply banned aerosol spray cans and that was that.

Needless to say, their complete destruction and subsequent death of every member of Toxco’s board of directors brought their stock price to near zero. Stories of ponies who turned a few thousand bits into a few million only to lose it all once the war was declared abound.
Recently, their stock prices have returned to 0.01 bits per share, up 10,000% in the past decade. Though in all seriousness, this is likely just part of a pyramid scheme. Don’t invest in Toxco, they are all dead.

Overall analyst sentiment:
100% sell

Curse Tech
Leader: Filthy Rich
Valuation: 1.5 trillion bits.

Established in 1317 as a lemonade stand, Filthy Rich quickly turned his business into a massive corporation.
Warp’s repeated failures eventually left him drunk and depressed. He eventually slunk off to some dark corner, leaving the seventh volume to his own student, Minuette. Minuette then proceeded to unleash a torrent of curses intended to slow technological growth.
She prevented most major scientists from continuing their research and made several technologies, including the combustion engine, impossible to use.
After Filthy Rich obtained an amulet putting the demon Nitpiculon (the ultimate demon lawyer) under his control, he saw a major opportunity. With many of Minuette’s anti-technology curses still in place, he could use the archfiend to get her with technicalities.
During the 1340s, Curse Tech reinvented many technologies that had nearly been lost due to witchcraft. Minuette attempted the same strategy on Filthy Rich but was no match for Nitpiculon’s insufferable lawyering.
Thanks to this, Curse Tech became the largest corporation in the world, diversifying into everything from fast food to weapon development.
Their most public controversy is the invention of the pinball machine, which many see as corrupting the youth. Of course, they probably get up to far worse than that…
Curse Tech stocks have been rising for decades with no end in sight. Shares are forecasted to reach 1,000 bits and a recently announced 10:1 stock split has caught public attention.

Overall analyst sentiment:
90% buy
10% hold

And now you can calculate Pinkie Pie's insane net-worth. Hard mode: Calculate her yearly return on investment for Curse Tech.

Nice world building, looking forward to seeing more blog articles like this and the next chapter as well.

Leader: Snap Allgood

I suppose he took his wife's name, given how much it was worth.

Plus, if Minuette is ever defeated their stock prices are likely to go through the roof!

Hmm. Curse Tech may have to face legitimate competition for the first time in years... though they do have the ultimate lawyer on their side. This could get messy in ways witchcraft can't hope to influence.

Excellent bit of worldbuilding. Nothing helps a setting feel lived in like the household names you'd never hear in your own household.
