Another update on an older drawing I did, this time the Zebs. If you go to the deviant art page for this, I have a bit of a story down for it, mainly about how all this relates to Caesar Shaka, and why the war was partially his fault, if not most of it.

But the main focus is on the guns, so I'll explain why I chose them. The overall idea is that where Equestia rarely had a need for guns, and most conflict could be solved with magic, the Zebras had only their hooves and the knowledge for alcamy to protect themselves (the comics being lest ignored here) Also unlike Ponies, the Zebras are not really a unified people, more sticking together for safety then out of any since of community, so they have a lot of internal conflict. the main player in all this is the Rommony Tribe, basically Zebra Rome, who holds things together through military might, and a fare amount of politics. So when they are given guns, they used them.

Before the war, the Zebra Empire had only recently moved over to bolt action, (be it 5-7 years recently) and were well trained and had experienced with the rifle for through small conflicts. Similar for the pistol, which was introdused during the previous emorored rule, and much later the Gattling gun, that was not seen as an honorable weapon, but helped prevent a revolt in the Zebra lands. when brought agenst the ponies, the they proved to be devastating weapons, effectivly forcing the unready Ponies to surender without even a shot fired.

All of cores, made by the griffions, who's talons can be found all through the war.

But the ponies proved resilant, and soon after, capable of fighting back with new guns, some of which were better thenwhat the Zebras had. This would strain the Zebras relationship with the Griffions, as where the ponies (mane 6 mainly) worked to maintain relations with other countries, and foster friendships, the Zebras did not, relying on trade and old allianced for their aid. so when the war came to a crashing hault, and things supn out of control when Celestia stepped down, Shaka could nolonger rely on the griffions for their guns.

The guns I drew for the Caesar Shaka Doctrine are all based on South African guns, and are ment to be guns as national/race pride. (why else would the gun be painted white and given black stripes.) not much lore can be glemed form the guns, as the idea is that they were all desined by Caesar Shaka as he desperately tried to regain control of the situation, only driving his people further into madness.

Though its not fully explored, the idea being that the paint job on the guns were infact enchantments, and the guns effectively talamens. this is reflected by the prison zebras in "Desperados" where they are able to make enchanted guns through painting the guns with alcemic paint. though I imagin that most rifles were not enchented, or the enchantments were quite mild. the rifle that Littlepip had was more then likely a rifle once owned by a Zebra officer, who had earned the right to have an enchanted gun.

Overall the evoulting of the guns was from an overall uniformed military, to that of specialists who had the right gun for the job. it also helped that the Zebras were incressingly using robots to fight, so the Zebra troops were used more flexibly, and the guns they used reflected their role.
