How do you make high school sports movies entertaining? Some athletic jock starts at a new school after a troubled past, beginning with no friends. But it turns out he's great at football or lacrosse or something, so he makes the team, and through that overcomes adversity and his own past to prove his worth to himself and others, going for the big championship and probably becoming the hero of the school.
Boring.
Really not interested in seeing that movie.
It turns out, though, that some people in Japan turned the premise into an animated series that's really very good. So good, in fact, it then got a movie follow-up a few years after. The only problem is that that movie follow-up has its last day on Netflix tomorrow, and the series will be gone too in a couple of weeks. Luckily the series is only 3 hours long, so you could watch it all this evening!
So, how do you take such a stale, tedious premise and turn it into something good? You just need to change a few things. The show is pretty much as described above... except that the superstar jock is a Japanese schoolgirl, the school is a giant aircraft carrier, and the sport in question is tank combat.

That's the one! If you're after that song, I should probably let you know - the English dub available on Netflix is very good (I much prefer it to Japanese with subtitles), but they couldn't get the licensing for that song. So you might want to watch episode 8 in Japanese with subtitles, even if you stick with English for the rest!
I really hope you enjoy it! It starts a bit slow, but by episode 4 it's really good
