Brainwashed: To like Starfleet and feel sorry for attacking his sister in the original version. In the updated version, he's "merely" sent to an insane asylum instead.
Incorrect.
In the initial story, he was not brainwashed, he was put into a magical fantasy to help show him things (A bit like forcing him to watch a movie) and he was sent to the asylum in BOTH versions.
The Complainer Is Always Wrong: He falls into this, as well as This example contains a YMMV entry. It should be moved to the YMMV tab.Strawman Has a Point. He gets kicked off the Wonderbolts for complaining about Starfleet, and is portrayed as a loser who lounges around the house all day - even his own sister disagrees with him and has little sympathy. He ultimately ends up getting arrested after threatening to kill his sister in a fit of rage, and (in the original version) is brainwashed to like Starfleet. However, he comes off as more accurate than the author intended regarding Starfleet's flaws and failures.
But he is always wrong... just like my detractors, he refuses to acknowledge the good in Starfleet, and he doesn't seem to fully understand how Starfleet really works and what really goes on and how much they are truly needed.
Informed Attribute: Is stated to be insane in the rewritten version, but there is little to suggest that this is the case.
Besides that he is wild, excessively violent, delusional, and he just committed a load of felonies?
And in BOTH versions.
Well-Intentioned Extremist: Genuinely believes Starfleet are tyrants and makes some legitimate points. But gathering a mob and beating up his sister for disagreeing with him is way too extreme.
Good intentions or not... If you break the law, you answer for it. And his points are made on assumptions rather than facts or true understanding.
Many people are still under the delusion that Ace was tossed in the asylum simply because he dared to protest and insult Starfleet and people who supported them... and my detractors are completely delusional thinking that protesting is illegal and gets you shot for it.
No, protesting isn't illegal in United Equestria, and that's not why Ace was arrested...
He was arrested because he was committing felony offenses, which included...
-Assault
-Battery
-Public Rage
-Disturbing the peace
-Attacking officers
-Insulting the crowned heads (Which they were willing to overlook initially)
And the fact that his wild and violent behavior proves that he is a danger to himself and those around him, he was thrown in the nuthouse.
Sgt Joe Friday: "If you don't like a law, you can persuade your congressman to help change it, or you can join in groups and demonstrate that you are not the only person opposed to the law, and you've got yourself a minority group.
In a democracy the minority has the right to demonstrate and try to persuade the majority that laws should be changed, but that does not give the minority the right to ignore the laws that exist, nor does it give them the right to break the laws and interfere with the lives of others while doing so."
Ace and his groups have the right to protest and hold pep-rallies... but they may not do things like...
-Push people around
-Bully them in the streets
-Throw rocks at windows
-Tip over carts and stands
-Deface property
-Obstruct Traffic
-Lay down in hallways and doorways
...that's against the law, just as the above list of felonies Ace committed.
He broke the law severely, and as such he is paying for it.
I realize a lot of people won't accept this, but I thought I'd make it anyway.
