Early New Year's resolutions, and Old Year's conclusions

Well, another year's come and gone. How did the resolutions go? Half and half in my case. Managed to partially accomplish what I set out to do, moving from wondering how to do things to figuring out what to do. I believe I've successfully identified the habits that are hampering or even harmful to me, so that's progress.

    Resolutions for the new year?

Summer update 2: What's Sticking to the Wall?

    Quick update on future plans.

Still working on the original stuff, I think I'm down to the last rewrite of what I wanted to do, only question is what to change in terms of details. Art's had some progress, but work responsibilities and sweet, sweet sleeping problems have caused disruptions.

    Summer update: what next?

Honestly? Not sure. I never publish anything that's not complete, so I'm not breaking any promises there. Thing is, I haven't started on anything new yet, and hadn't lined anything up before the previous one.

Two Halloween surprises for those unaware. · 9:41am Oct 30th, 2021

First off: new Blender short film. If you liked Laika's Paranorman, you'll know some of the character designs. If you'd like to see a horror movie with Smurfs in it... yeah, that's basically what you're getting. Fair warning: rated T. Very much not PG-rated.

Second surprise: Ghostbusters game.

I had this on my Steam wishlist way back when, but then it disappeared, presumably due to licensing rights. For those who don't know: this is the Ghostbusters game that had the original voice cast of the films (minus Rick Moranis, because he had family obligations, all respect to him) and a script that was partially going to be used for the Ghostbusters 3 film we never got.

So yeah, the game vanished off of the Steam store and mucked up the wishlist entry for a long time.

Turns out there's a remastered version out now. And it's on sale until November 1st, 75% off. It's apparently more of a fan service game, quick to complete, not recommended on highest difficulty due to AI issues, but a fun take on the first-person shooter genre and recommended for fans of the original films. I don't normally advocate caving into FOMO, but with franchise-based games that is an actual concern, so do your own research, make your own decisions on that. Personally, I think it's at a price that's under that of a movie ticket, it's a concept that appeals to me, and I've made similar purchases before (Stick of Truth, anyone?) so it's not a big thinker. Though it does add to the long list of things that need doing...

Also, if you'd like to be on the other end of the Ghostbusting experience, just throwing that out there: there is a game called Ghost Master where you do just that. In fact, you can set witches and Ghostbusters on fire if you play your cards right. Wonky AI in that one, too, though, it's an older game, mainly for casual play.

Stay tuned for story-related updates. There's not much news, but some, and possible publication dates coming depending on how things evolve.

Cracker out.

I highly enjoyed the Ghostbusters game, though keep in mind that the original film is my all-time favorite movie, so grain of salt and all that. The game mechanics were fun, and there was just enough variety to keep you engaged, having to swap between proton streams on the fly, along with some puzzle solving. Of course, the biggest draw was the returning voice cast, and they all did great... except for Bill Murray. God, he sounded so bored. There was hardly any passion in his voice, to the point where a few times he spoke so quietly I would have had no idea what he said without subtitles. Clear case of just one take. But given how much he has resisted any Ghostbusters projects since the second movie, I guess it made sense. Maybe he needed a new car, or maybe they blackmailed him like they did for the reboot.

Still, at less that $7, I highly recommend it. Not very long or deep, but a satisfying hit of nostalgia.

Whelp. Good thing I don't like camping.

Give a hoot, don't pollute, or else. Alternatively: don't enter the woods without salt and pepperspray, just in case.

Pretty impressive overall, though, got some of the Laika vibe going on in places.

Yeah this was a good watch. Disturbing, but very enjoyable. 10/10
