Spectrum 2.1 - Rewrites Soon (tm) · 12:13am Oct 9th, 2021

Sledge115: Hello there, and welcome! First off, my apologies; it’s been quite some time since we’ve seen a chapter of Spectrum published. But worry not! We’ve been hard at work over the past few months in finishing up this rewrite, and we dearly hope that it’s been worth the wait . If all goes well, we should have it up by the 10th of October, give or take a few days, with the handover around the same time.

Now, with the rewrites imminent, I should note that if you wish to save Spectrum and The First Second of Eternity pre-rewrite, now is the time. Both of them will be updated, and thus the original versions will be lost in time and space.

A silver lining is that these rewrites have allowed us to streamline and iron out the rougher parts of Spectrum, a few tiny retcons, as well as the additions of a few pretty cool scenes, heh. And I am in agreement with Vox that, hopefully, this is the most refined Spectrum has ever been.

Apart from ironing out the obvious grammatical errors, here and there, as well as fine-tuning scenes, we’ve also done some work on it, aesthetic wise. There’s going to be a lot more mentioned over in the rewrite announcement proper come the final day, but all in all, you’ll know it when you see it.

Hope to see you all soon, heh, and cheers!

P.S. To those not aware - yes, I'm getting the Spectrum story transferred to my account, if all goes well.

VoxAdam: And there it is. Six months since the announcement of these rewrites on TheIdiot’sjournal and a year since the email first making the request to pull out JedR’s characters and concepts in order to enable a pull-to-publish, practically to the day on both these instances, Spectrum 2.0 transitions into Spectrum 2.1.

Not a full reboot of Spectrum, such as came about when we were a larger and still more grouped-together Team back in May 2017, but somewhat akin to a remaster; greater polish than ever in its presentation, a revision of narrative elements for a smoother fit into the overall story, even the addition of hitherto never-published scenes that either got left out in editing or are entirely brand-new.

This is how I’d wish to see it, as an addition foremost, rather than a subtraction. Given my inherent push for perfection, that we would revisit the story one more time in such fashion may have always been set to be, aye.

I had only hoped we might have done so under the banner of consensus. Now, all I hope for is that what we did do, compelled by circumstance, shall still live up to standards. And that it will be to readers’ liking.

Spectrum has at no point come packaged with a fully-formed and immutable plan; those chapters which are yet to be written will be no more blessed by hindsight than these chapters were when we originally wrote them.

However, drawing upon this experience just as we drew upon the experience of OG Spectrum upon performing our reboot four years ago, ever mindful that the story may never get a proper ending, I at least can speak for myself when I say that what's in the cards looks better than ever.

See you on October 10th or 11th, depending on where you are.
